You can get the same effect as a new car by buying a used car and then lighting $20,000 on fire when you drive it off the lot.

All the shirts I have with logos I got for free, usually from work. Except for my NASA t shirt. I'll wear their logo for free.

I could see it being useful if it was an accessory to your phone. Not having to dig my phone out of my pocket to take a picture of something to look it up, or having a push-to-talk badge or pendant would make it more convenient, especially for folks like me who don't wear watches. And with Bluetooth it would have decent battery life.

But the damn thing can't even set a timer.

This thing is addressing problems that don't exist. It's solutionism at its worst.

I asked this question in another thread but didn't get a reply, and I'm interested to hear an answer because I don't really have one: What would people expect their personal situation to look like if the economy were doing well? What are they not seeing that they would expect if the economy was doing well?

I'm sure cheaper concert tickets will come as a comfort to those who are struggling to pay for lifesaving medication.

They can ration their medication even more and go see Taylor Swift before they die.

I'm actually okay with that. Growing up is stupid. Bills and politics and heartburn and hemorrhoids and shit.

Similar shares say they “move their mouse” to show they’re still active on their company’s messaging platforms (like Slack or Microsoft Teams) when they’re not really working, and they’ve scheduled a message to send outside of regular hours to give the impression they’re working overtime.

I thought that was just using technology appropriately. If I have Slack on my phone they can get in touch with me pretty much anywhere, so why not use it? Hell, scheduling emails to go out in the morning so they're at the top of a recipient's inbox is a recommended sales tactic.

When people feel the need to sneak out for breaks, it’s a sign that their workplace doesn’t have a supportive PTO system or culture in place, Rodney says.

Or maybe the notion of people working constantly for eight straight hours and then stopping at the end of the day is dated and inaccurate. I've never been in a job where I didn't take some breaks, even if it was a couple minutes sitting on bags of frozen food in the back of a restaurant.

mandate a certain amount of time off

The last company I worked for noticed people weren't taking time off. They asked why, and people said that it was stressful coming back from being off because they have to get caught up with everyone who was working. So the company started doing one day a quarter where everyone in the company had the day off, except for a couple people on call, and it worked great.

I guess I'm a patriot because I like to imagine that a country could be not existing. Nation-states were a bad idea.

This leftist knows too much history to ever feel affinity for this country. Hell, I don't think countries should even exist.

I am automatically suspicious of anyone who's a patriotic American. Either they're ignorant of our country's history and are idiots or they're proud of it and are psychopaths.

Edit: I just realized I'm paraphrasing Patrick O'Brien:

But you know as well as I, patriotism is a word; and one that generally comes to mean either my country, right or wrong, which is infamous, or my country is always right, which is imbecile.

It's from Alton Brown's cookbook "I'm Just Here for More Food." He's got a similar recipe online which I find highly irresponsible.

Also, do not ever try to experiment with it and make a savory salmon and dill cheesecake. Yes, it's the perfect appetizer for a garden party but my god you will not be able to stop.

I would definitely not recommend doing what I did, which is learning how to make literally the best cheesecake everyone who's tried it has ever eaten.

I make sure not to have the ingredients in the house or I'd probably eat one a week.

It's a real problem.
