I mean seriously? This dude's project has had hardly any downtime (like 100% inaccessible downtime) in the last few days during a massive migration. How impressive is that? He was able to find a solution with cloudflare where, sure things were a little slow to load and didn't federate, but I never found myself unable to access kbin. On top of that, he's communicating clearly and often. I hope this succeeds. @ernest has absolutely earned it.
Back in November, the Fediverse thing seemed a little ridiculous and convoluted, mostly because I was looking for a replacement for Twitter, an application that I never really used. In the last week, I have come to see that the entire thing is quite brilliant and necessary for the growth of the internet to not be so dependent on corporations. The challenge for many will always be the lower number of users, but this Reddit migration really seemed to have swayed a lot of people, myself included.
The fact that #Kbin is in such an infancy and works as well as it does is insane. I am very excited to see where all these projects will go after more and more people begin to jump on.
Like for example, how someone thinks because you work in IT you can fix their TV, or how if you're into music you must be able to play any random instrument....
I am a school psychologist with a master's in clinical psychology. The main misconception for my work is that (at least in my state) school psychologists rarely focus on counseling. Instead, we are writing reports and determining whether a student is eligible or maintains eligibility for special education. I give IQ, academic, and social-emotional tests and write a report. I work with a student for about 3 hours maximum and then I'm alone writing and scheduling meetings. Then, I'm onto the next one.
Most people, even staff in the school, think I am a counselor. I can technically do it, but there already is someone who was hired for that position... so, they should probably do that, and I'll make sure our special education documents are compliant.
The first time I heard Periphery was back in 2019 with their 17-minute long epic called "Reptile" and I've been a fan ever since. This is from their latest album and is probably one of their best in their discography. Maybe that's just recency bias, though.
For me, I love going back to the Season 2 opener. It starts out strong with no one, not even Fry, recognizing the name Titanic. It's got robot software humor, Zapp, a parody of a famous movie, and so much more.
I'm not surprised; I was killing some time at Micro Center yesterday and couldn't believe how high the prices were. Shelves were pretty much completely full. I found better deals over in the laptops for GPUs. At least with that purchase you get a whole computer.
I'll go first. I've used a lot of search engines, I used duckduckgo for quite some time but found their search results kinda bad. I'm currently using ecosia the search results are similar to ddg's but at least I'm planting trees, so there's that.
The way Lemmy works right now is you search a community in your instance for it to then get shown, so you need to first discover that community from elsewhere. With that in mind, what are some growing communities that you discovered that could get some more love?
Yep. He made a post a couple days ago saying he's not sure whether to continue working on Sync or throw in the towel. Definitely sucks. Sync was incredible.
Good point about the writers. Most people appeared to be concerned with the cast (which of course makes sense, you want the show to sound the same, too), but the writing really helps these iconic characters stand out in addition to their incredible actors/actresses.
Hahaha yes! Definitely! One of my favorites is when Leela tells Fry that he's becoming a "fat sack of crap" and Fry responds "Sack?!" like that was the most offensive word, haha. I will never not love the show! I hope this community grows. I was pretty involved in /r/futurama at times, if not lurking.
I thought Disenchantment had some real potential, especially near the end of the first season with the reveal. But then, it just kind of kept being an OK show after that so I stopped watching.
Looks like federation is working again!
I just saw some posts from beehaw.org and lemmy.world, looks like we're back in business!
What's an innocent misconception about your hobby/profession that drives you up the wall?

What are some great communities to follow that are not on lemmy.ml or beehaw
