The Reddit Protest Is Finally Over. Reddit Won. (gizmodo.com)

The last major holdouts in the protest against Reddit’s API pricing relented, abandoning the so-called “John Oliver rules” which only allowed posts featuring the TV host. The article describes it as "the official end of the battle," which seems an overstatement to me, but it's the certainly the end of the initial phase....

Creating a viable competitor is never a victory from a business perspective.

Zigbee is notorious for mesh instability, mostly because some devices (looking at you, Lightify) are picky about what repeaters they use in the mesh. Build your mesh slowly, spread some good repeaters around your house, and give the mesh time to settle down before using it in production. Don’t move repeater nodes or power them off. (I had some lights that I had to delete and re-add every two weeks, until I figured out that the cleaners were unplugging a repeater to plug in their vacuum:-) Finally, make use of the “Visualization” tab under Configure to see what’s happening on your mesh.

I have half dozen Hue bulbs, and they seem rock-solid - far more stable than my Lightify bulbs.

The HA SkyConnect does seem to be a factor. For a while, my Lightify bulbs were the last thing on my old Samsung SmartThings hub (via the HA integration- basically using the ST hub as a Zigbee radio/stack), because they operated more reliably there.

Yes, every line-powered device is (probably) a repeater. Many light bulbs are, with the caveat that you must keep them powered all the time. Having a bunch of repeaters drop offline will cause fits with your mesh stability.

How to use central scenes on Zwave?

I have several Zooz Dimmer light switches in my house and I’ve noticed in the documentation that they support certain action actions (e.g. double-tap, triple-tap, tap&hold) through something called ‘central scenes’. I use the Zwave JS Integration for my devices, is it possible to somehow setup these scenes through this...

Make sure to look for Zooz blueprints - there are blueprints for many switches. The blueprint for the Zen32 scene controller really helped me use the switch to the full extent.

Certainly reduces the confusion - one less car brand to consider when shopping.

@MaJ1 DuckDuckGo here. Very satisfied for search, and I also use the browser instead of Safari private browsing.

@MaJ1 That’s how I work. I still use Safari as my primary browser with DDG set as the search engine. I only use the DuckDuckGo browser when I need the private browser features.

I’ve had a couple of Kwikset 920 Z-wave locks and they are solid. All local, good integration with HA security, no phoning home.

One of the features of my Tempest PWS that is a real blessing over the summer in lightning detection. My rescue beagle does not handle thunderstorms well, and the vet recommended some anti-anxiety meds - but they need to be given well before the storm is audible to some very large ears. So, I have a Home Assistant automation that sends alerts for > 5 strikes within 60 miles.

You can also get the Blitzortung integration for Home Assistant, which will let you generate an alert from their cloud data.

    mariyadelano, to threads

The hardest part in trying to write about is figuring out how to compassionately describe both sides of the divide.

On one hand, I’m rooted in the camp and you have all seen me making fun of the cringe and status-chasing on Threads.

On the other hand, I’m a marketer and a long-time lover of many mainstream web spaces. I don’t hate a lot of popular culture. And I missed so many of the people who only now migrated from .

So how do I approach this with kindness?

    Technodad,
    Technodad avatar

@mariyadelano “The medium is the message”, and raw numbers aren’t the only factor affecting promotion placement. Your brand(s) identity will inevitably be associated with the company they keep on social media. So, you have an audience size vs. brand identity choice to make for each possible channel.

It’s probably too early to tell for Threads, since numbers and profiles of active users, tuning of the timeline algorithm, and the app itself are all in flux. The decision has been made for Twitter - many big brands are deciding that they don’t want their brand associated with the channel. The fediverse is a smaller but IMO a more select audience, and one that has more control over what it sees, so getting a view there may outweigh many more in other channels.

So, time for a bit of brand identity thinking to figure out which channels will get seen by the customers you really want.

Is there any difference in network performance, e.g. reliability of communication, or is that all down to the hardware?

I hope they a) improve it, b) keep it platform-independent, c) maintain the paid subscription. I don't use it when driving, but it's the best I've found for planning.

For the Ioniq 5, the brake lights supposedly do turn on for the higher levels of regenerative braking per https://youtu.be/G1rJNNKRzqY . I wonder if the discrepancy between these two results is different software for the North American market?

Going to have to do a test on my iq5 when traffic calms down..

Related: Can anyone recommend a Fediverse magazine for the Ioniq5?

According to the Ioniq Guy on YouTube, Hyundai has just announced a service update that activates the brake lights based on deceleration rate. The update will be available in July, so a pretty quick response.
