Indeed. These days on any social media, there’s a critical threshold for user generated content creation. Different for every platform and as social media expectations change over time. I think the fediverse has a real shot at sustainable growth thanks to Twitter and Reddit enshittification. Being able to see new content daily or even hourly as a measure of critical mass seems to have been reached here and it’s beautiful to witness!
To be fair, Apollo and other phone apps set a standard of quality for the content we expect. Old reddit is efficient but even kbin and lemmy are a little rough on the edges compared to that. It’s the first impression that matters to a lot of people and it’s not up to the standard most expect. It’s a good start, but just that, a start.
For those who are unaware: A couple billionaires, a pilot, and one of the billionaires' son are currently stuck inside an extremely tiny sub a couple thousand meters under the sea (inside of the sub with the guys above)....
I forget the company but someone with a certified 6k depth sub is standing by waiting for coast guard and govt approval to dive down there with an attached drag line capable of pulling the missing ship up to the surface. Basically one big tow line and an powerful wench. It would take a few hours to pull them up.
Currently using a webapp from the kbin.social website saved to my Home Screen on iOS. It works pretty great actually, but it’s got some quirks. Mainly, it’s not really tuned for the phone screen, not well enough at least. It also lacks niceties like easily previewing image and video posts, as well as saving them. Coming from Apollo, saving media to my phone in a specific folder is sorely missed.
On KBin we have the ability to add tags to posts. These can either be directly added using the “pound” sign octothorpe, as in #KbinMeta. You can also add tags using the “Tags” field when creating an article, link, or photo. The second method will append the tags to the end of the post when the post is federated....
This is where LLMs like GPT should be applied. Parse a post and recommend tags based on the content, allow the user to just select which ones to use. This is how we leverage these models.

Same boat! The last 5 years of my Reddit usage was 100% anonymous, sign out out of any account using the Apollo app. But when I joined the fediverse, something about it got me back into the swing of posting and voting.

Musi (app on iOS for listening to YouTube without ads and allows background listening) has been working for several years at this point. So I don’t see Google doing much about it.

It is discouraged but with a very strong non-reused primary password for your home instance, you’d be hard pressed to have problems with hackers even if they dump your database. It’s still a better idea to use a hardware key but that’s understandably annoying to carry/use.
One thing you could do is setup a second vaultwarden instance running on a separate machine ideally on a separate network and keep only TOTP connections on it, with its own backups and storage. But that is probably just as annoying.
About the same, 8 years of minimal Debian with desktop environment as a primary machine. And about 10 more minimal Debian vms on my promox machine for all my services and hosting. It’s fast, stable, has just about any package you could ever want, and uses almost no memory for extremely light setups.
I found a home in Reddit when Digg v4 happened. After many years, I wound up deleting my Reddit account and using it 100% anonymously as a pure consumption content aggregator. I'm here on kbin now and restarting my engagement with the content. It feels fun again! I just wish we had a catchy name like Digg v4 to call this Reddit exodus.
As an aside I didn't consume Reddit at all during the blackouts in solidarity even as an anonymous consumer, but when I returned it was full of trash and Reddit quadrupled down on their shitty position so I deleted the apps and have added all the Reddit owned domains to my pinhole alongside Facebook/Meta, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
If there is archived content I need to access for support or finding advice, I'll be using the fediverse and archive.org from now on.
The federal effort to expand internet access to every U.S. home has taken a major step forward with the announcement of $930 million in grants to shore up connections in dozens of places where significant connectivity gaps persist. Those places include remote parts of Alaska and rural Texas. The so-called middle mile grants are...
The problem is we tried this before with the subsidies and grants for a major fiber backbone that got half built and the rest of the money pocketed while prices skyrocketed and speeds barely rose. The same thing happened when broadband definitions got rewritten to define faster base speeds— ISPs increased speeds to meet the minimums but also increased the prices.
I’m worried this money will just be pocketed again.
YSAK that getting new tires doesn't always line up with the PSI rated by the vehicle manufacturer and will have the rated PSI listed on the wall of the tire. You can also request the documentation on the tires purchased from the shop you got them from.
Edit: As rightfully pointed out in replies to this, yes the markings on the tire wall as typically the safety ratings for the tire itself and the correct PSI is a more complicated relationship between the vehicle, the size of the wheels/tires, and contact area of the tire for optimal traction and fuel economy. The vehicle placard will be a good value in most cases, except when the tire marks a max pressure lower than your vehicle's recommendation. Always consult with the shop if you have concerns.

Just started hosting Vaultwarden. It's freaking awesome.
It was one of the easiest to setup and it works flawlessly. I'm a bit paranoid about losing my data even with the backups.. Any recommendation?
