My view on this very feminist piece is that Winehouse wasn’t anywhere near as influential or impactful to music and other musicians as Nirvana (which is the article’s main point of comparison). Many other musicians and singers have come and gone (both male and female) and are not held in anywhere near the same reverence as...
I felt that the media's treatment of Cobain and Winehouse both flipped the usual gender narrative, at least if what she says is true. Cobain was cared about and treated with concern while Winehouse was seen as a joke, somewhat like Gazza (British former footballer Paul Gascoigne, known for his alcohol-fuelled decline and very much left to it). I don't really remember Cobain, but in the late 2000s it was clear that Amy was on a very self-destructive path and nobody was going to care until she wound up dead.
Oof I think this service is only worth it if you have a family plan and everyone helping. That is how I personally make it reasonable in terms of pricing.
Walked to the village (i.e. in the opposite direction to the town), got a takeaway iced coffee. By the time I got home it was no longer iced coffee weather (=raining). Working this afternoon - working days this week are Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Nebula. I did have Spotify but got fed up with not being able to regulate its 'suggested content' list. It was mostly about podcasts for me so I now use a different podcast platform.
Drink tickets should also cover non-alcoholic drinks for those who don't drink alcohol. Otherwise it discriminates against non-drinkers and could be indirect discrimination against, say, Muslims.
So, to get this out of the way, I'm a cisgender white man from a well-off family in a fairly affluent town. I'm making this post because I want to hear perspectives from those who are different from and likely significantly more knowledgeable than me. I work in homeless services and I would agree with that. If you want to give money or help, give it to the organisations that help homeless people. For the reasons stated here.
You can't post anything about good urbanism in the Netherlands, or really anywhere in Europe, and not have someone say it wouldn't work in the US or Canada because these countries are "too big".
Seriously, it's ridiculous how pervasive this excuse is.
And yet it's so stupid, right? People don't travel across the country every day, they travel within their city.
I really didn't want to, but I finally broke down and made a video about this. It had to be done.🤦♂️
@notjustbikes I'd rather watch Nebula anyway and have subscribed, and follow your videos on there. The NotYouTube thing for me is more looking for a place to find small-scale content, the sort of channels (like my own) which probably wouldn't get onto Nebula. Whether it's a LBRY-based channel, something in the Fediverse, or an offshoot of another video/photo content host, matters less to me than a practical alternative to YT.
or Vimeo setting up a more 'community'-oriented form of itself, with free uploads etc. Or Flickr going in for long-form video. Could something like that rival YT?

I frequently go through phases of thinking I don't actually use FB, but then realise how I use it - not so much for keeping in touch with individuals, as for local news and information on upcoming events. A few years ago (2015?) I deleted mine but set up a new one (in 2019) and use it mostly as a local news and information feed.
