guess what just broke on my laptop after 2 years

I'm guessing it was the floppy drive?

My disaster recovery plan:

  1. I plan on not having a disaster.

  2. If I do have a disaster, I plan on trying to recover from it.

Fstoppers on YouTube: Printer Ink, It's a SCAM (www.youtube.com)

In this video, a Canon print cartridge is opened up and revealed not to contain the meagre 11.9 ml (0.4 fl oz) of ink it is advertised. The proposed solution is to buy a printer designed to be manually refilled with bottles of ink (such as the featured Epson EcoTank ET-2850), though it has only been tested briefly.

My biggest problem has been that the ink always dries up, since I don't print very often, and a laser printer has solved that for me. Now, about 3 years later, the black toner is still at 90%, and still working reliably.

Could we stop with the viruses for a while, please? Just a few years is all I ask.

"No, it's true, I swear! The coffee machines on our side can do both espresso and latte! And all the American barracks have 2-ply toilet paper! It used to be only 1-ply, but then last mo— What do you mean 'this guy is useless', I've just given you everything!"

Nothing's more permanent than a temporary solution.

Calckey sounds like a calculator/math/graphing application and Firefish sounds like another generic fork of Firefox.

The server would never see a plain text version of your password.

As you realized in your edit already, this part is not correct. The server would always receive your password plaintext (when signing up and when logging in), but only store it hashed and salted.

clb92,
clb92 avatar

The server needs to receive your password to verify it and log you it. That's how it always is. As long as you are connecting via HTTPS, this is not a problem.

So, Salvor thought turning a key and pulling a lever would be too complicated for Gaal, so she absolutely had to dive down and do it herself, risking both their lives... Top notch writing /s

Why are we stuck with bash programming language in the shell?

Bash-like scripting has become ubiquitous in operating systems, and it makes me wonder about its widespread adoption despite lacking certain programming conveniences found in other languages. While it may not be the ideal choice for large-scale software development, the bash shell possesses unique features that make it...

I'm gonna get crucified for saying this, but... I write a lot of my scripts in PHP. It's just a language that I'm very familiar with.

And with multiple sticks of RAM in use, that makes it RAID, right?

Right?

But then they can't force you to get Discord Nitro.

There's a suspicious lack of real photos and video of this soon-to-be-ready vehicle that's set to ship to consumers in just 2½ years. Surely they're not still in the very early R&D phase, right?

The best actual photos I can find is of an oversized drone with a basic frame the size of a car, a "cockpit" in the middle that will barely fit 1 person, 8 propellers where the entire "car" would normally be in a car, and some light-weight foam side panels slapped on. No car engine or car wheels (except some small castors to roll it around).

Along with the (paraphrasing) "it's supposed to be a slow-moving vehicle while on the ground" comment in the article, I guess they're building a big drone with a small lawn mower motor to move you around on the ground.

You know what it also is? A purely theoretical 3D rendered vehicle that doesn't exist.

OceanGate CEO Bragged About Using Expired Carbon Fiber to Build Doomed Sub (futurism.com)

New evidence strongly suggests that OceanGate’s submersible, which imploded and killed all passengers on its way to the Titanic wreck, was unfit for the journey. The CEO, Stockton Rush, bought discounted carbon fiber past its shelf life from Boeing, which experts say is a terrible choice for a deep-sea vessel. This likely...

I mean, it's insanely easy to avoid being crushed at the bottom of the ocean in a homemade discount sub that everyone has tried to warn you is unsafe

Tell me about it! I've been able to avoid it for 30 years, and I haven't even really been trying that hard!

I took the liberty of upscaling it x4 with LDSR (latent diffusion super resolution), and while it took like 20 minutes the result is really nice!

Sure it can create new words. It can't create new tokens, would be more correct, I think. But a token is just a text fragment, and, as far as I know, they can range from being several words to being single characters.

/kbin - a few quick announcements

Good morning! :) Today I want to focus mainly on reviewing the pull requests you've submitted. There are many great things there that will help improve the kbin experience. That's amazing, thank you! I'm also in the final stages of sorting out the infrastructure-related formalities. Soon, the situation with the website's...

I very much agree with this suggestion!

Right now the future of Kbin rests solely on /u/ernest's shoulders. That's a bus factor of 1.

so people can still search it

See, this is basically why I probably won't delete my Reddit comments and posts.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I'd like to think that I have contributed at least a little bit and been somewhat helpful during my 11 years on Reddit, and I want people to still be able to find whatever they might want to find there, while keeping the context of it alive too.
