Things may have changed in the meantime though, you never know. A lot can happen in 9 hours in the wild and fast-moving industry of RSS readers.

Google Workspace and Dropbox Business using Rclone.

Er det ikke kun lemmy.ml? De blokerer af en eller anden grund kbin.

Forhåbentligt bare lidt forsinkelse indtil kbin.social og feddit.dk er synkroniseret igen. We'll see.

There's a surprising number of people who seem to think LLMs contain a database of everything it's trained with, and that it just spits out snippets from there. There are also lots of very vocal artists against image generation models who claim that these 5-10 GB models contain all their copyrighted art, claiming that the models just create collages from existing images.

People simply don't understand how these things work.

Encryption With A Back Door Is NOT Encryption (ktetch.co.uk)

There’s been an increasing call in recent weeks and months for encryption to have government ‘backdoors’ put into them. This is a bad idea. No really, it’s an incredibly bad idea. Even if we took the assumption that it is a push that’s made with only the purest of intentions, and the government universal key is kept...

Well, most government employees are also regular people once they're not at work, and they would be using the backdoored encryption for their personal communication. With the backdoored encryption it would be even easier than before to compromise a couple of them and leverage their access to get into the government systems. That's already a very widely used technique.

OC I haven't seen anyone mention the kbin native(?) app!? I tried it and it seems perfect and amazing?

I tried Jerboa briefly and couldn't get it to work well for me. Then I visited kbin on my phone's browser and was prompted to install the kbin app!? I haven't seen any references to it, but it's exactly what I wanted...? Has anybody else tried it?

Easy to develop and works on all platforms,

I had that problem too but it seems to be fixed for me now since yesterday.

The website seems to respect that setting, just not when installed and launched as PWA.

clb92,
clb92 avatar

The settings are the same for me in the PWA, but I'm on Android with Firefox. But I have tried changing the setting and then changing it back to make sure in the PWA, and that doesn't seem to help either. It always starts on All. I have also tried installing the PWA from Chrome on Android, same result.

But a silver lining is that I can can use user-scripts in the PWA with Firefox.

If you want a dual-pane file manager with lots of advanced features, there's Total Commander. It's not open source, but it's great anyway. Has plugins for SMB, NFS, and so on.

At least two Kbin apps are being made right now, the furthest along being Artemis, which is actually both compatible with Lemmy and Kbin. Limited closed beta ongoing right now apparently, opening up to more beta testers soon, I believe.

Yeah, cancelled just as it was getting really good.

The ubuntu install speedrunning community is wild.

You know what it also is? A purely theoretical 3D rendered vehicle that doesn't exist.

clb92,
clb92 avatar

There's a suspicious lack of real photos and video of this soon-to-be-ready vehicle that's set to ship to consumers in just 2½ years. Surely they're not still in the very early R&D phase, right?

The best actual photos I can find is of an oversized drone with a basic frame the size of a car, a "cockpit" in the middle that will barely fit 1 person, 8 propellers where the entire "car" would normally be in a car, and some light-weight foam side panels slapped on. No car engine or car wheels (except some small castors to roll it around).

Along with the (paraphrasing) "it's supposed to be a slow-moving vehicle while on the ground" comment in the article, I guess they're building a big drone with a small lawn mower motor to move you around on the ground.

He looks like Nicholas Cage

I can't detect if that's sarcasm, but in case it's not: The parrot just alerted the mother, who then saved the child. The headline is just structured in a weird way.

In compact mode, some inline expanded articles and images seem to be pushed very far to the right.

I'm reading Pyramids right now. Where are you at in the series?

clb92,
clb92 avatar

Ah, I liked that one. Granny is a great character, I think.
Did you start the series from the beginning, chronologically?

clb92,
clb92 avatar

I started with Guards! Guards! and then continued from the beginning after that (more or less... I accidentally read Wyrd Sisters instead of Equal Rites, so a little bit out of order)
