Is there any one else who feels like their life has been disrupted by this whole debacle with Reddit.

I really do like KBin and Lemmy and the fediverse on the whole, but development is still young and the userbase still growing. KBin is still basically early access, and Lemmy is buggy. I spent alot of time in reddit and I'm feeling the pain of trying to ween myself from it. Just wanted to here community perspectives and see how...

cutitdown,

Do people have something against commenting on old posts? I'd do that all the time when I had reason to on Reddit

cutitdown,

Getting a 404 error, but might just be due to kbin upgrades, etc.

cutitdown,

Nah, it's pretty clear when you open Threads and it says literally "Log in with Instagram". It's like logging into YouTube with your Google account and then being mad that deleting your "YouTube account" deletes your Google account. You can always disable your YouTube or Threads profile.

cutitdown,

Yep, this is just pure sensationalism, problems with Meta/Threads aside.

cutitdown,

Haha, definitely! Had to have that autoplaying music when people came to your page!

The kbin icon is now officially in the latest release of the Tabler set. I recommend using and sponsoring this project.

cutitdown,

@cody All good points! Thanks for your insights.

cutitdown,

@cody Looking through some of your posts here, nice work! Are you the main designer for kbin?

One thing I've noticed is the preview images in posts that are generated end up squishing images depending on the aspect ratio. Some issues with magazine icons/images as well.

Threads vs microblogs?

Does anyone have any advice on whether to use or when you're looking to say, start a discussion about a topic on ? Is there an etiquette for what option is best? Or do people just pick depending on their mood (having a Twitter vs a Reddit sort of a day)?

cutitdown,

@NudelnAlDente Not sure there's really any set ways, but I'd personally use a microblog with hashtags if I wanted some reach beyond kbin or the community I'm posting to. That said, it seems like folks on kbin might favor threads in general, perhaps because it's most similar the posts on Reddit where many of us have come from.

cutitdown,

Don't believe so -- might be a custom CSS hack to sorta pseudo-lock a thread, but could be gotten around.

I saw someone recommending Aether aside from Lemmy and Kbin, what is it ? googling Aether give me...

"According to ancient and medieval science, aether, also known as the fifth element or quintessence, is the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere. "

so yeah..

cutitdown,

@NormalTownLeader Hmm -- doesn't seem to me. They compare themselves to Reddit on their about page. I think it's just the fact that it is an app and has a similar layout to Discord that gives those vibes. The actual communities and posting style seem more Reddit/forum to me, or perhaps a hybrid of sorts.

@ikantolol

cutitdown,

Oddly enough, I did on Reddit and haven't been on kbin, lol

cutitdown,

I don't have experience with it myself, but you could perhaps try Element: https://element.io/

cutitdown,

Designer here. You could try searching for communities on the fediverse dedicated to design/web design/3D/etc and contacting someone if you like their work or just making a post about it if allowed, or a mastodon/microblog post with lots of related hashtags. Or if you really wanna widen the net, you can try looking on Twitter/Threads/Dribbble/etc. for people you like and contacting them.

cutitdown,

You can also hit ⊞ Win + . and go to the emoticons section.

cutitdown,

Have you gotten them working at all? Seems they're still a WIP perhaps?

cutitdown,

Same, I've set them up and have tried to add badges to post just in case, but not sure it's working since it's just plain text and there's no autofill or anything.

CEO of asking a question whether a new feature is worth it. Some thoughts:

  • It kind of feels like LLMs in a microcosm. Sure, you can get it to do some really cool stuff. The feature demoed is simply really cool. But is it actually useful? I personally dont see it. Very high showoff factor, pretty low impact factor for me
  • Soliciting feedback on potential features like this is cool, good way to run a company

cutitdown,

@laurenshof I'd definitely love to use it, but I as I saw somebody else mention, for the average user, they'd probably want to identify some of the more useful ways to use this and turn it into a GUI instead of the chat interface. Love how open Josh and the Browser Company are.

cutitdown,

I'll have to wait for kbin support to try that one it seems. Looks decent though

cutitdown,

Chrome on Windows 11!

cutitdown,

Nice! The little dot on the slider not showing for me though

cutitdown,

Super stoked about holding Shift to open any link in Peek!
