I really do like KBin and Lemmy and the fediverse on the whole, but development is still young and the userbase still growing. KBin is still basically early access, and Lemmy is buggy. I spent alot of time in reddit and I'm feeling the pain of trying to ween myself from it. Just wanted to here community perspectives and see how...
Nah, it's pretty clear when you open Threads and it says literally "Log in with Instagram". It's like logging into YouTube with your Google account and then being mad that deleting your "YouTube account" deletes your Google account. You can always disable your YouTube or Threads profile.
@cody Looking through some of your posts here, nice work! Are you the main designer for kbin?
One thing I've noticed is the preview images in posts that are generated end up squishing images depending on the aspect ratio. Some issues with magazine icons/images as well.
Does anyone have any advice on whether to use #threads or #microblogs when you're looking to say, start a discussion about a topic on #kbin? Is there an etiquette for what option is best? Or do people just pick depending on their mood (having a Twitter vs a Reddit sort of a day)?
@NudelnAlDente Not sure there's really any set ways, but I'd personally use a microblog with hashtags if I wanted some reach beyond kbin or the community I'm posting to. That said, it seems like folks on kbin might favor threads in general, perhaps because it's most similar the posts on Reddit where many of us have come from.
I saw someone recommending Aether aside from Lemmy and Kbin, what is it ? googling Aether give me...
"According to ancient and medieval science, aether, also known as the fifth element or quintessence, is the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere. "
@NormalTownLeader Hmm -- doesn't seem to me. They compare themselves to Reddit on their about page. I think it's just the fact that it is an app and has a similar layout to Discord that gives those vibes. The actual communities and posting style seem more Reddit/forum to me, or perhaps a hybrid of sorts.
I'm at a bit of an empass. It was easy to communicate with a single mod but now that we're 3, communication is tough. I thought maybe Microsoft OneNote... but it just doesn't have the privacy and decentralization that's consistent with kbin....
Designer here. You could try searching for communities on the fediverse dedicated to design/web design/3D/etc and contacting someone if you like their work or just making a post about it if allowed, or a mastodon/microblog post with lots of related hashtags. Or if you really wanna widen the net, you can try looking on Twitter/Threads/Dribbble/etc. for people you like and contacting them.
Same, I've set them up and have tried to add badges to post just in case, but not sure it's working since it's just plain text and there's no autofill or anything.
CEO of #arcbrowser asking a question whether a new feature is worth it. Some thoughts:
It kind of feels like LLMs in a microcosm. Sure, you can get it to do some really cool stuff. The feature demoed is simply really cool. But is it actually useful? I personally dont see it. Very high showoff factor, pretty low impact factor for me
Soliciting feedback on potential features like this is cool, good way to run a company
@laurenshof I'd definitely love to use it, but I as I saw somebody else mention, for the average user, they'd probably want to identify some of the more useful ways to use this and turn it into a GUI instead of the chat interface. Love how open Josh and the Browser Company are.
OC Is there any way to be notified when others respond to your comments? I feel like it naturally extinguishes conversations to not have any notifications?
I've gone back and noticed that sometimes a handful of people had responded to a previous comment and I never realized it....
Is there any one else who feels like their life has been disrupted by this whole debacle with Reddit.

PSA: You Can't Delete Your Threads Account Without Also Deleting Instagram (www.makeuseof.com)
Meta's Threads app has a major flaw: you can't delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram account.
Why is no one decorating their magazines?
Why is no one using CSS to make their magazine's visual appearances more unique? That was the main draw of old Reddit for me....
Is there a way to lock a thread?
I know that moderator functionality are on the To Do list for ernest, but is there even a way to lock a thread at the moment?
Does anyone think that due to how usernames work on the Fediverse, we might get some people using their real names as usernames?
I'm thinking about how emails ended up becoming. Where our first email addresses were so wacky, and slowly we just wanted out real names.
How do you communicate with your Mod team?
I'm at a bit of an empass. It was easy to communicate with a single mod but now that we're 3, communication is tough. I thought maybe Microsoft OneNote... but it just doesn't have the privacy and decentralization that's consistent with kbin....
Best way for a layperson to hire out graphic design help for hobby project?
Like say for example I wanted a cool icon for my kbin/lemmy community....
Reddit hated emojis, how does Kbin feel?
Seemed like emojis in posts / comments would get downvoted to oblivion on Reddit. I don’t see the same thing on Kbin (or other instances / services).
What are badges for in Kbin?
Hi all! Been trying to find the answer to this as a mod a few magazines....
