Sure, it's open-source, but Google essentially controls it. That is literally why they forked WebKit. And websites are starting to rely on Chromium's quirks. Firefox and Safari will have to choose between following standards or Google's quirks. Not ideal at all.
Prior to the protest reddit was in full support of the protest. Most polls on subs supported a shutdown. Now, seemingly every community cant understand why the protest was needed and they're calling it a mod power trip. There is a 3rd possibility. This is an unfounded conspiracy but reddit themselves could be manipulating...
I am on both, admittedly. Hard to say which one I prefer so far, but I really wish kbin had an iOS app. Lemmy has mlem, but I still have to use the site in a browser to do much of anything right now
I know some apps like Relay and Infinity are going to try to have a go at making the paid API model work, but there are plenty of users who refuse to give a cent when they know that Reddit is taking way more than is reasonable.
Both. I'm using the site on mobile and on desktop, not an app. My settings reflect that my default feed is set to Subscribed, but it gets reset to All whenever I go back to the home page, regardless of whether I change it to Subscribed from the home page or in the settings.
So are we Fedditors, Lemmites, Kbinites?

According to someone on a discord server I am in, Reddit has started adding watermarks to every post?
OC With Reddit officially going insane I am glad that I am here
/kbin and lemmy might be not perfect yet, but I am glad that I am here and not on Reddit.

OC My 3rd party app is coming along! Got it pulling actual data from kbin.social! Huge inspo from Apollo app. (tech.lgbt)
Hoping to have a private beta test within a month or two. For now calling the app Kmoon (K🌛)...
Daily traffic visits to the top two #Kbin and #Lemmy servers over the last 28 days, up until June 11th.
I know it's wishful thinking but I really hope all the media coverage of the protests will tank Reddits upcoming IPO.
