Had I known what'd happen in 2008 I would have waited ... but I bought mine in 2007. As much as I've had to fix, and as much as I complain about how the builders must have been on acid back in 1967/68 when it was built because nothing is fucking square, it's still one of the best purchases I made.
So basically the title. Which App is your favorite one and why? I’m still mourning the loss of google’s inbox and never found an app that scratched the itch like inbox did…...
Thunderbird on desktop for my Gmail accounts and own domain. Built-in iOS mail app for those on mobile. Outlook web interface for work desktop, and Outlook iOS app on mobile to keep work and personal emails separate.
So you like chicken & waffles, eh? If you're ever in the Chicago area, or Indianapolis, visit Kuma's Corner and order the Sourvein. It's a 10oz burger topped with deep fried chicken tenders, bacon, cheddar, waffle strips, maple syrup drizzle, and raspberry aioli, served on a pretzel bun. Be sure to add a fried egg when ordering to complete the experience. It is exactly as thick as you think it is, but holy shit.
Looking for some good headphones to use for listening to music, and gaming. Could do wireless.. but I feel like USB or 3.5 mm connection would be best. Seems like a lot of the big brands have stuff locked into their windows apps....
I have a theory that there is a impossible trinity (like in economics), where a food cannot be delicious, cheap and healthy at the same time. At maximum 2 of the 3 can be achieved....
Got a Xeon E5-2690v2 with TrueNAS Scale and a Synology DS418. Having used both pretty heavily over the years I can safely say I'm indifferent. The Synology is efficient; the TrueNAS Scale box performs really well with the added bonus of being able to run Kubernetes and Docker workloads. They're both sitting in their respective corners, doing their respective things, with minimal intervention.
I'm in the same age group. Wolfenstein 3D and Doom are the ones I grew up on as well, but the first game that really blew my mind was Microsoft Flight Simulator 4. It was especially cool to me that I could easily fly around the area I grew up in from the starting position at Meigs Field in Chicago.
Like for example, how someone thinks because you work in IT you can fix their TV, or how if you're into music you must be able to play any random instrument....
I feel this. Not just family, too -- anyone who hears that I'm in IT. Or, even worse, when my family offers up my IT services to others without my knowledge, and those people call me out of the blue. There is no world in which I am happy or eager to deal with some rando's computer problems.
For an early look at Update 8 you can now switch to the Experimental beta and give it a try! In this post you'll find info on all the content and changes in the Update.
Really excited about this, but it's not launching for me on Linux. I've tried several Proton versions including two GloriousEggroll releases, but it just doesn't proceed past the logo splash screen. Mildly disappointed because Update 7 was flawless, but not surprised because it's Linux. I'll keep poking away at it until I can get it working.
I have been joking to a couple of friends today who were also redditors that I've been feeling withdrawals from reddit throughout the day. Like I knew I was addicted, I just never thought I was going to have to face the consequences of withdrawals!...
With their impending IPO, Reddit exists to make money. That's all well and good, but the way they chose to proceed with that endeavor is ugly. To that end I can safely say I'm not grieving for it; rather, I'm disappointed and annoyed.
Will I miss the platform? Eh sure, I guess. There are plenty of old vBulletin and phpBB forums I miss too. The difference is that I can still use Google's cache to view Reddit search results if I absolutely have to.
What are some of the best purchases of your life?
For me it has to be:...
Best Mail App - your thoughts

Any love for a different kind of bean? (lemmy.world)
I've only recently discovered fried chicken with waffles. Addictive. (lemmy.world)

If you could place any object on the surface of Mars, purely to confuse NASA scientists, what would it be?
For me i would just place like random paintings, like NASA would be very confused on why Mars would have paintings lmao.
DIY vs pre-build NAS for home use
What do you have, what do you recommend, and why?...
Which is the first PC game that blew your mind?
For me it was definitely DOOM 2! Miles ahead of anything else I had played before.
What do you all use for password management?
I'm using KeePass currently, since I don't really want to use anything publicly hosted. But I was curious to see what other people have been using!
Did you reuse your Reddit name or create a new one?
I originally went with the same name but have been using this one now since it's new and the idea of starting fresh appeals to me....
What's an innocent misconception about your hobby/profession that drives you up the wall?
Like for example, how someone thinks because you work in IT you can fix their TV, or how if you're into music you must be able to play any random instrument....

OC Any other former redditors feeling grief?
I have been joking to a couple of friends today who were also redditors that I've been feeling withdrawals from reddit throughout the day. Like I knew I was addicted, I just never thought I was going to have to face the consequences of withdrawals!...
don't lie... it happens to all of us eventually
What are some of your favorite Anime to re-watch?
I've been re-watching Hunter x Hunter lately. It has been really fun. What are some of the anime you keep going back to?
