I thought the narrator sounded familiar. Their videos on displays of different kinds are utterly mesmerizing. What an unreasonably high quality channel.

Clarence Thomas bought a $267,000 RV using funds from a Democratic donor (www.salon.com)

A report from The New York Times details yet another luxury obtained by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas using funds from a wealthy associate. In this instance, it’s been revealed that he purchased a Prevost Marathon RV in 1999, using $267,230 received from Anthony Welters, a former executive at UnitedHealthCare who...

Reminds me of an episode of Common Sense by Dan Carlin from yeeears ago that basically said "the system is corrupt and voters aren't able to command our politicians to do what we want, so what if we just pool money together and bribe them too?"

If you buy one they will announce a new one, if you don't they will not lol

Wow this is huge! Most of my experience with Inkscape has been modifying designs for cutting with a Cricut and 1.3 has a handful of game changing features that were sorely missing.

Samsung has always seemed like the reliable (albeit expensive) option to me. I personally went with a 2TB Sabrent NVMe because it was on sale and it hasn't failed me yet.

It's been a long time since I was on blind but I recall them asking you to provide your work email to verify your employer. Don't recall them actually sending anything so not entirely sure how it verified. Blind is definitely a mixed bag of a platform, super toxic with people dick measuring over TC but also decent for getting word of what's coming your way (layoffs, etc)

I make a mental note to avoid a company and their products whenever I see an ad. If I want your thing, I will seek it out. You wanna entice me to buy it? Go make your blogpost demonstrating why yours is better than the alternatives I'm looking at.

Really happy to see that the dev is bringing Boost to Lemmy/Threadiverse. Losing Boost has been the saddest part of reddit shutting down for me

At the moment it doesn't seem that kbin has api docs so I'd expect it be a stretch, but seconded. I'd love to have kbin support. The kbin web app is currently sitting where Boost used to in my phone taskbar. It'd be nice to put things back where they belong

reminds me of reagan wanting to give DoE the axe until he figured out they have the nukes lol

Pretty sure it's hexbear joining back into mainline lemmy

I have 10 lemmy instance accounts. Am I doing something wrong? (lemmy.one)

Just joined Lemmy today. From what I understand, there are different Lemmy instances that host different communities. I supposed that to interact in a community hosted in a certain instance, I would need to create an account for that instance. Ended up creating 10 different accounts.

OC Userscript to redirect Lemmy links to Kbin magazine format (greasyfork.org)

Hi all! Here's a script I threw together to fix a little annoyance that was making Kbin a bit frustrating given how much is on the bigger Lemmy instances. Any shortlinks in the format of !topic become /m/topic@domain and thus open correctly on your kbin instance....

Hey be glad you had insurance because otherwise you’d be paying $293,725,252,748

I got annoyed with this too and just wrote a userscript to automatically do it https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/468898-kbin-redirect

Admittedly I haven't read much from them in the last year or two but usually ars is consistently good

Kbin is federated with a bunch of the lemmy servers as well. If you look at the address of the post it's kbin/m(agazine)/lemmyworld@lemmy.world, so we're seeing a post from the LemmyWorld community (called magazines on kbin) on the lemmy server https://lemmy.world/

I promise it makes sense after a while lol

edit: the users of lemmy can also see what we say over here on kbin because kbin and lemmy talk to each other. This post lives on that lemmy instance

TL;DR both of them speak the same language so both can call each other up and trade info back and forth. You can upvote/comment/whatever on either and it'll appear on both sides without you having to do anything special.

It doesn't all go back to lemmy, but lemmy and kbin speak the same language (ActivityPub) and can talk to each other (they are federated). Others in this thread have compared it to email where you might be on different services (gmail, yahoo, icloud) but they can still all understand messages coming from each other. The fediverse is similar, but instead of just sending a message to another site to put in your inbox like email, lemmy/kbin/mastodon/etc can ask each other for stuff on an external site and display it to you as if it was all coming from the same site.
In our case kbin calls up lemmy.world and asks for what everybody there is saying on some post. Lemmy.world tells kbin about all the comments and upvotes so kbin can plug it into the same style of page you see for everything else here. Even though it's happening on a separate server and underlying platform, they still know how to exchange data

Imagine going back to like pre-pandemic times and showing half of the headlines twitter has made in the last year lol. What a fucking disaster.
