Twitter's API keeps breaking, even for developers paying $42,000 (mashable.com)

Twitter's API issues have frustrated developers in each of Twitter's new API access tiers. Those with Basic or Pro plans — paying $100 and $5000 a month for API access, respectively — have experienced unannounced changes to their plans, numerous bugs, and often receive zero customer support. And developers shelling out for...

Seriously. Imagine the developers who sunk all of their time, effort, and money to make great and beloved 3rd party apps for these platforms to see it completely screwed over in the span of mere months by people who do not understand what made these platforms unique and successful.

Twetbot (which I used personally and loved), Tweetdeck, and Twitterrific to name a few. They have been around for a while (some over a decade).

New, Conservative Push To Weaken Child Labor Protections Is Gaining Steam (talkingpointsmemo.com)

A movement to weaken American child labor protections at the state level began in 2022. By June 2023, Arkansas, Iowa, New Jersey and New Hampshire had enacted this kind of legislation, and lawmakers in at least another eight states had introduced similar measures.

We shouldn’t be shocked when the education levels of these states (literacy, math, writing, etc) starts to decrease in the near future. It’s not like these politicians, companies, people care sadly, but with the less time teenagers are going to have for studies, extracurricular, and usual teenage things, we can definitely expect to see even further decrease in grades and proficiency levels.

Grades are one thing, but the mental toll and stress a lot teenagers face due to not being have to have an effective school/work/life balance is insane. I have seen a further decrease on these students mental health since the pandemic started (especially now with inflation impact lower SES families) since alot of them have to work to provide for the family as well.

Well based off the draft resolution passed by the senate a few days ago, a nuclear accident that sends nuclear clouds into a NATO countries airspace would trigger article 5.

So you’re right, it would definitely open that door.

European VCs and tech firms sign open letter warning against over-regulation of AI in draft EU laws (techcrunch.com)

Major tech founders, CEOs, VCs and industry giants across Europe have signed an open letter to the EU Commission, warning that Europe could miss out on the generative AI revolution if the EU passes laws stifling innovation....

holo_nexus,

With generative AI and it’s harmful impacts being the hot topic right now, I can see how the EU regulations are garnering so much attention and support right now. Even if they do pass the regulations, it’s still going to be important that other countries (US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, etc) get on board or I can easily see the EU being left behind in this space. Like you said, some sort of protections by the EU are going to be important.

With that said, I just don’t see how these regulations remain long term if there isn’t buy in from other countries.

While GDPR is possible to enforce (and thrive) while the majority of the world doesn’t, I find it very difficult for its potential AI industry to do the same if the current draft resolution is passed and unchanged.

It’s still to early to tell if the current draft remains the same and is passed in the EU; but if it does, I think many companies will be content with pulling their business from the EU altogether. These regulations can severely limit the data moat that EU based AI companies can have if they want to create their own competitors, already leaving them in a big disadvantage against other companies who are trained in massive amounts of data that the EU may potentially say cannot be accessed.

Btw, I fully lean on the side of the EU with regulated what data AI companies can access and compensation for creatives. Like you said, AI can eat its own tail, which we already see happening with reports of LLMs being trained with other AI generated content.

There has been a lot of centralization of power under the administration of AMLO in Mexico. From abolishing regulatory agencies to examples like this, it’s no secret at this point that consolidation of power has been occurring at a federal level.

This is just the latest (and quite troublesome) development in his tenure. Mexico is worth keeping and eye on.

It is worth noting though, he has pretty high approval ratings (65% as of April) so citizens mostly support his actions during his tenure.

Does anybody feel like the quality of reddit has already dropped massively?

I see a lot of comments from bootlickers on how the protests are dumb and stupid and dont work and engagement metrics are still holding but the quality of posts and comments has noticeably depreciated imo. So much so that whenever I visit the site Im actually shocked at how bad it is.

Havnt checked so honestly wouldn’t know. Now that I think of it, it’s kind of crazy that Kbin replaced it so easily for me and I am on it far less (which is a good thing tbh).

It’s also testament to how good the experience here has been so far. And how crap reddits response as been.

What an insane 24 hours. Man just completely fucked Putin and the government and shoots to Belarus.

Maybe didn’t get the support he needed?

Leaving the capital when Wagner still hasn’t reached it. Not a good look.

holo_nexus,

Deleted my previous comment I was unaware of such a resolution but you and previous commentators are correct. Statement on “nuclear cloud” has been made by NATO as a red line, which is terrifying.

No one knows who or what would come out of a power vacuum, but history tells us it’s usually a more hardline and extreme result. With some of the reports coming out of more hawkish elements within the Russian government adding more and more pressure on Putin to take further measures in mind, it can be a major cause for concern.

Russian military has been shambolic to say the least. Honestly think it’ll be a case study for other countries in the future on poor leadership in a 21st century conflict.

holo_nexus,

Exactly we have seen the Russian governments stance become more hardline/hawkish as the conflict has progressed and many Russian military failures. If Wagner group and Putin turn on each other, it’ll be the best for the world.
