Helping out with ARTEMIS!
Find more of my stuff [HERE].

I have created a few magazines to get settled here - if you want to contribute or take over as moderator, do let me know!

OC I’m back with several more community icons: check out Artemis (future kbin app), Urban Details, 3D Modeling and some other stuff

Honestly, I’ve been really enjoying making these, probably the most I’ve been excited to model something for months. So I exchanged some sleep for a faster turnaround :) Previous post here...

These renders are incredible. I enjoy playing around with Blender sometimes myself, but my skills are limited to placing a few simple blocks ;)

Rabbithole,

We (meaning the whole fediverse, all instances) need to be de-federating that crap immediately.

Nothing good will come from having Facebook streaming into here in anyway whatsoever.

The Fediverse as a whole needs to be a separate place so that people can leave places like that.

Also, if Facebook is allowed to "work with" the development of the fediverse at all, they absolutely will eventually destroy it for profit. And "working with" it absolutely includes them federating with it.

When their vast resources are taken into account, and their existing userbase also, they would rapidly become the main instance (or collection of, but probably just one) of the whole fediverse. Once that's them, they can use that position to dictate terms pretty hard.

Before you know it, everyone that would eventually have come here are there instead, and they're now the fediverse. They can also fork the software and leverage their Dev teams to make their fediverse vastly more polished... No donations needed on their fediverse, less bugs, everyone you know is already over there... Seem familiar?

How does that effect us who aren't there, how isn't it just the same thing as now? Our fediverse dies off because the users leave, instances close down through lack of population/need, before you know it there's nobody here and the idea just dies.

Literally been done before. The playbook is absolutely common knowledge: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguish

WookieMunster,

I’m sick with all the dumb posts of poop and beans

OC I designed and rendered a couple of icons for the magazines I started, and I’d like to share some behind the scenes images with y'all. I’m also open to doing a few more of these in future.

So I 3D modelled two icons (well, illustrations rather) for the communities that I created on kbin: Industrial Design and Jewelry Design. These icons are meant to reimagine kbin’s logo in a way that's relevant to each community....

speck,

No shade to lemmy instances, but definitely not Lemmites. There's an unhealthy trend right now to reduce the fediverse to just Lemmy (and lemmy.world, more specifically) that we should not encourage.

This whole 'we need a name and a mascot' deal has big 'Stop trying to make Fetch happen' vibes.

Artemis private beta rollouts have begun!

Hi there, the Artemis private beta rollout has just started! @hariette will be emailing 50 signup sheet users, while @lilkev will be adding 50 users from Artemis Discord. The order will be based on the submissions to the private beta signup form, as well as general activity within the Artemis community....

What I think kbin needs to do to survive, and why I think it has a better chance than any other Reddit alternative I've seen yet.

I’m a Reddit refugee who was on that platform for 10+ years. I saw not just a tremendous amount of controversies, but attempts at introducing alternatives to Reddit during all of them. The 2015 blackout saw a ton of alternatives suggested, and if you go back and look at them many have either not survived or never achieved...

Kichae,

We're waiting for a project that can lower the bar for the 'common' user who wants to click a button and yell into the void. Probably Meta's intended audience. I expect that this future project will in turn become more of a containment zone

Yeah, I can honestly say that I'm not waiting for that lower bar, and I'll be happy if those folks stay with Twitter and Reddit until they finally go bankrupt.

Which'll be a while.

It would be nice if Meta's AP-supporting Twitter competitor didn't turn out to be profitable, too, but this isn't a Metaverse gimmick, it's right in Meta's wheelhouse, and is right there with their core business. I'm sure it'll capture a lot of people from Twitter too impatient to wait for BlueSky, and will make money.

At least I can blacklist it if it starts being a problem.
