Just bought a pc laptop and want to dual boot Linux. Windows will be for some games, Linux for everything else. Would this be the right place to ask for advice?
The NVIDIA thing has been answered elsewhere in the thread, so I'll answer the other one: ... It depends, but usually there's a minor performance hit. Other times it works just as well, and there are some edge cases where it actually works better.
There's also the issue of compatibility: in general, if anti-cheat software is involved, expect to have problems. This website is a database for Steam games with reports from users about what works, what doesn't work, and what can be done to fix or at least mitigate what doesn't work. You can sync your Steam library to it to see how well the games you have are supported at a glance.
@jynersolives Out of the pan, into the fire. I will shed no tear for Twitter, but the rise of Threads is equally concerning, especially given Meta's known past policy concerning their competitors and the fact they're already intending to meddle with the Fediverse. I do not believe any good can come from one of the tech giants getting involved with it.
That's the federated aspect of those platforms at work. Assuming both instances of a given platform on the Fediverse (here, Fosstodon and kbin.social) are federated together, which they are by default, content from both will be accessible from users of the instances.
For me flair is probably the most important. I follow a lot of organized sports and being able to quickly identify which team someone supports helps the conversation move along without having to write "as a fan of..." in every single comment. And this isn't a like talking shit, sports guy thing. It's genuinely extremely useful...
Multi-magazines are definitely something I'm looking forward to. There will come a point where I will want to see content about a specific subject, and I'll be subscribed to too many magazines for looking at the entire "subscribed" section to be feasible.
You are not, and it was even slower for me at the time you posted this thread than it is now. Hopefully things will stabilize as ernest works on getting more solid infrastructure and mitigating the load from all the traffic.

What are some kbin or Lemmy alternatives to common Reddit subs?...
Long and short term, which features would you like to see implemented?
