Bryan Lunduke is just another right winger who’s butthurt that Mozilla spends any of their money advocating for liberal values. Meanwhile the massive amounts of corporate cash that get funneled into conservative ‘think’ tanks (oxymoron much?) and superpacs apparently isn’t a problem for him. While I acknowledge he does raise some valid points about Mozilla’s over dependence on Google revenue, nearly all large corporations try to peddle influence with political parties and donate to social/charitable causes, so there’s nothing unusual about that at all. If they were a more right wing organization, this article would never have been written by him, that’s obvious takeaway here - it’s just a stock standard conservative hit job.

jordanlund,

This seemed to be popular information when I posted it (ahem) “elsewhere”. Thought it might be welcome to have here.

Lemmy.ml is blocking all requests from /kbin Instances (kbin.social)

I discovered yesterday evening that Lemmy.ml is blocking all inbound ActivityPub requests from /kbin instances. Specifically, a 403 'access denied' is returned when the user agent contains "kbinBot" anywhere in the string. This has been causing a cascade of failures with federation for many server owners, flooding the message...

ursakhiin,

I'm not sure I agree with the premise that gamification is bad. Many people need a push to do things that improve their lives.

The Fitbit example is one that jumps out in that it is there to motivate people into exercise. While I personally don't respond to comparisons to others, I do respond to data where I can compare my results and recognize that my watch telling me I did a good job feels good about the exercise I just did.

Kahn Academy is gamification of a form of education. Earning points for learning many subjects.

I think there is merit to the argument that Duolingo went a bit overboard with trying to guilt you into continuing, but I don't think it can reasonably be argued that trying to motivate people into language study is bad.

I think mentally, the author is probably just one of those like myself that doesn't respond well to gamification overall but the majority of people definitely do and it can help in self improvement.

That said, I totally agree about a gamified workplace. That strikes me as a slippery slope to an unhealthy relationship with work.

Decided I'm going to go ahead with my Kbin mobile app.

Yeah I know i have a lot on the go, but I use Apollo daily, and want a solid Apollo like experience for Kbin.

I'm willing to hand over the project to Kbin if they want, and would love to work closely with the developer on this if possible.

Will be starting this next week, after my camping trip! It will be open source from the start, and contributors will be gladly welcomed!

OC I created a site that helps people search the fediverse (programmer2514.github.io)

I had been having trouble getting meaningful results from the fediverse on Google, and after seeing this post, it seems I'm not the only one. So, I created a site that helps search the fediverse in your search engine of choice (it currently supports Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Dogpile)....

Weazel,

Here's the list because fk those websites that put 10 Games on 4 pages because that way they can shove more ads down your throat.

The kbin/lemmy app is coming along. Here´s a little preview of the upcoming beta! Heavy inspiration from Apollo. The app will be available for both iOS and Android. (imgur.com)

The dev, @hariette, also has a Mastodon profile where she posts updates https://tech.lgbt/@hariette. There is also a link to the apps discord server in her bio.

Kbin Roadmap 2023

A certain stage of development has ended - a prototype was created that allowed me to verify whether such a form makes sense in the #fediverse. Until now, it was a project that I developed in my free time. Now, thanks to the great people from Nlnet, I will be able to devote much more time to it. This time, we have already...
