6 'Soldiers of Christ' members are in custody after a woman's body was found in a car trunk (apnews.com)

DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — Five adults and a 15-year-old self-described as “Soldiers of Christ” religious group members were in custody Thursday on murder charges after a woman’s body was found in the trunk of a car parked outside a popular spa in Atlanta’s suburbs.

"A police spokesperson said Friday that investigators believe they have arrested everyone who is involved and are not looking into Soldiers of Christ any further."

Not sure which prewritten response to choose from... Do I make a joke about how if we defund the police, there won't be any police around to decline to investigate possible human trafficking rings? Or do I make one about QAnon ignoring yet another case of human trafficking coming from there own bizarre christofascist orbit?

[News] State Republicans Try to Remove NC Supreme Court Justice for Mentioning the Existence of Racial Bias (slate.com)

On Tuesday, it was reported that North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls could be ousted from her seat for judicial ethics violations. Did she fail to disclose gifts from a billionaire benefactor on whose cases she was ruling? No. Maybe she’d gone on luxury vacations across the globe paid for by some of the richest...

soratoyuki,

Anita Earls is mixed, and that was incredibly easy to find out on Google.

U.S., FBI Hoovering Up DNA at a Pace That Rivals China, Holds 21 Million Samples and Counting (theintercept.com)

In an April 2023 statement submitted to the U.S. Congress to explain the budget request, FBI Director Christopher Wray cited several factors that had “significantly expanded the DNA processing requirements of the FBI.” He said the FBI collected around 90,000 samples a month — “over 10 times the historical sample...

soratoyuki,

Friendly reminder that we imprison people at the same rate as the USSR did at the height of the Gulag system. Behind all the euphemisms, we're living under the boot of a grotesque police state.

soratoyuki,

We had sustained national protests for months just a few years ago. The problem isn't that we're placid, but that the barriers we face to organizing mass movements are close to insurmountable and there's no available and responsive avenue to successfully lobby for change in our so-called democracy.

It's the state and all of its carceral powers against a politically uneducated population that's one arrest away from getting fired and then one missed paycheck away from homelessness, or one injury at the hands of a too-excited cop away from medical bankruptcy.

soratoyuki,

Just expropriate vacant houses and Airbnbs. It's not hard.

soratoyuki,

Americans are so propogandized, you can offer a conservative free endless clean energy from the actual, already-existing sun and they'll say no. It's embarrassingly pathetic.

soratoyuki, (edited )

It's already happened in Utah, were Bibles were temporarily banned in school libraries until courts the school board invented an exception to return them. These laws were never designed to be honesty and neutrally applied, and it's a grave mistake to assume otherwise.

soratoyuki,

Edited! Thank you for the correction. I was clearly too tired when I posted.

soratoyuki,

If you have to go back to the 50s to disprove the notion that there are no good conservatives, I feel like that's a pretty good indication that there are no good conservatives.

soratoyuki,

The legislation also bans the sale, transfer or import of gun magazines with more than 10 rounds unless they are owned by law enforcement or a military member or were owned before the measure’s passage.

Exempting the police from gun control laws and giving them control over the permit process isn't gun control. It's just funneling arms away from the vulnerable communities that need means of self defense (and are the ones usually on the receiving end of disproportionate state violence) and giving them to the communities that oppress them.

soratoyuki,

Hey @accountunacountable just curious, why are you reducing seemingly every post?

soratoyuki,

It does seem like it. To quote GabeN, piracy is a service issue. Between Bandcamp and Spotify, it's pretty easy and affordable to buy/stream whatever music you want, whenever you want. That really cuts down on the incentive to pirate.

I personally listen to a bunch of fringe foreign music that's not available for easy purchase, so I pirate that still. But whenever new Jeff Rosenstock or whatever drops, it's easy in a way now that it wasn't 10 years ago to just legally buy it and support the artist.

soratoyuki,

Add another to the 'not a drag queen' list.

soratoyuki,

This Marxist boogie man is always so bizarre to hear. There are literally 0 Marxists in Congress. There has never been a Marxist President or Supreme Court Justice. There has never been a Marxist Governor. Right now, there are only about a dozen Marxists combined in state and local governments in the country.

We gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers in this racket.

soratoyuki,

Minor tangent, but why are so many comments guilded on that post? Hopefully they all came from free coins...

soratoyuki,

I don't know why, but I'm still in shock it actually happened. RIF is the only way I've ever used Reddit. Spez is burning down one of the best and most informative communities just to up his future net worth a few percentage points. It's disgusting.

soratoyuki,

Still waiting for the Subs please 1080p torrent. Sigh...

soratoyuki,

Not enough people took a statistics class in school and it shows.

soratoyuki,

Pretty much all of the ironic "oh we're just pretending to be bad people lololol" ironic circlejerk subreddits. Best case scenario, they eventually attract people that don't recognize it's ironic, worst case the mask just falls off. PCM is probably the worst of the bunch. Writing fake tweets to mischaracterize political opinions you don't like is just such a bizarre hobby.

soratoyuki,

Agreed but for the opposite reason lol. Whenever I see UnpopularOpinions on All it's always very popular opinions being upvoted.

An Anti-Porn App Put Him in Jail and His Family Under Surveillance (www.wired.com)

On a Wednesday morning in May, Hannah got a call from her lawyer—there was a warrant out for her husband’s arrest. Her thoughts went straight to her kids. They were going to come home from school and their father would be gone. “It burned me,” Hannah says, her voice breaking. “He hasn’t done anything to get his bond...

soratoyuki,

What the hell. Being spied on by the state because a family member is accused of a crime? The powers of the carceral state are terrifying.

On a lighter note, this seems like a good time for some malicious compliance. Stream legal fetish porn and gore 24/7 on all your devices.

Did the reddit hivemind do a 180 or are the people left behind just the people who don't care.

Prior to the protest reddit was in full support of the protest. Most polls on subs supported a shutdown. Now, seemingly every community cant understand why the protest was needed and they're calling it a mod power trip. There is a 3rd possibility. This is an unfounded conspiracy but reddit themselves could be manipulating...

soratoyuki,

I assume it's just a biased sample size? The people left on Reddit are the people that don't support the blackout. The people that do care are here instead.
