Hey… thanks, brother

thanksbrother,

It used to make sense, like… people that need no provocation to go into something they won’t shut up about, or things like that. Lately it has just stopped being used in any way that actually makes the “Nobody:” part matter.

Hahaha the person that takes another bite and walks out but just stands outside. Nobody was worried about this guy.

“How was robbery today honey?”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Oh baby…”
“:(“

My man wrote children’s books and poetry but also enjoyed drugs and was a hippy (not the dirty stinky kind, more just a counter culture guy). He rules. Check out his songs, it makes it all kind of come together.

QAnon leader dies in Rochester after dirt bike accident (www.postbulletin.com)

Michael Protzman, a modern-day Pied Piper and leader of a QAnon cult who led thousands of people into believing a bizarre conspiracy that former president John F. Kennedy and his son John F. Kennedy, Jr., are still alive, has died in Rochester, according to the alternative news outlet VICE News.

Can we please remember to talk about things on the fediverse besides the fediverse itself?

Having spent a lot of time on Mastodon... There are tons of people there talking about federated and self-hosted services, software freedom, censorship, encryption, tech regulation... A very narrow range of topics directly surrounding the fediverse get a lot of attention....

I think this is a side effect of a lot of us browsing “all” right now combined with the fact that most people are actively transitioning.

I’ve set up magazines for my interests and subscribed to the ones that already exist, but interaction is low or nonexistent except for on Beehaw where there are only a limited number of broad-topic communities and people will see and read what you post. Right now, you’re pages deep minutes after you post. Until people more effectively curate their feeds and spend time trying to interact with subject based content like they did on Reddit I think a lot of us will just be typing into the void waiting for friends (or enemies) to appear

Didn’t even know I had this one in my tupperjar - I’ve been meaning to stock up on some nice connecticuts for my morning smoke but went the opposite direction and had a Cain this morning.

Much stronger and fuller than I’d usually like this time of day - but I knew what I was getting into. Taste isn’t unpleasant - it’s actually very nice, but it’s a spicy boy and the nicotine is there for sure. Retrohale hurts a bit so I’m doing it sparingly.

Coming back about 5 minutes later and it has toned down that pain a bit. Not burning my sinuses. Just a strong nicotine, full bodied cigar with some chocolatey woody notes, an absence of sweetness for me but ymmv.

Of what I’ve got I am lately favoring something a little lighter. There’s a massive price difference but I love my Casdagli Gramd Cafes, and something light such as a Connecticut is such a great coffee companion. Also just not looking for so much nicotine. This Cain would be ideal next to a strong whiskey. On the budget I’m still in love with the Tatuaje Series P Short Robusto, it tastes good lasts long enough and a perfect companion for a grill session, usually wrapping up right around when the food is ready.

You have to swipe on the comment you’re trying to respond to. Took me a few also.

Madlittlepixel: Could the click-stick controller recently announced by 8BitDo lead to a Neo-Geo system by Analogue? (www.youtube.com)

MLP (My Little Pony...?) seems to think so, although at the moment, this is just speculation... an educated guess based on past products by Analogue being released shortly after related controllers by 8BitDo....

Looks pretty slick but double shoulder buttons / triggers would be needed for modern fighters :(

My initial reaction was it sucks. It wasn’t great to begin with, but this felt like a major downgrade to me.

Giving another chance to the My Father - Flor De Las Antillas

These were part of my initial cigar haul and when I first got them I was somewhat disappointed. Didn’t taste too great to me, which was disappointing because I had seen so much praise and I like the presentation with the ornate styling of artwork and little silk cap.

Smoking again after about a month in my jar and I’m actually really enjoying this one now. I don’t know if that’s due to aging or due to changes in my palate since I started smoking cigars. I’m new to all this, if you asked me two months ago to review my favorite smoke it would have been “American spirit yellow, filter snapped off, tastes pretty much like a cigarette but my tastebuds are shot and I’m really just trying to chase a shot of whiskey with some dopamine.”

Medium to full bodied, very nutty with a pleasant aroma. Just enough sweetness, with a notable but not overpowering spice on the nose. I always say I taste chocolate, with like every cigar that has any sweetness at all. I think I just am trying to find that flavor and do.

There are some things that just aren’t really here yet with regards to searchability and history, so so I’ve been back a little bit for some research.

That research was triggered by leaving Reddit though, like I’m using Reddit to leave Reddit and clean up my digital life.

In the last 10 years the internet has just been in a downward spiral and I didn’t really notice it happening. The enshittification everyone is talking about. For me it started with switching from a blackberry to an iPhone and Thunderbird entering non-development mode and Google Reader going away. I had systems, and they got disrupted, and every website became almost unusable with the ads and constant intrusion into my life and data. It all turned into a perpetual doom scroll.

So I’m going on a social media diet (only opening Instagram and Facebook to announce I’m available for work) and getting RSS back into my life to make things actually readable again. But this kind of stuff is where searching “(region) news rss feeds Reddit” is still the best way to find things.

Looking forward to kbin and/or lemmy taking over that niche.

Work is still slow so I’m trying to enjoy my mornings over here as cheaply as possible. Been taking a long-ass time to read this book so this is my plan for the morning hours.

I haven’t had the Factory Smokes or any of the other generally accepted “good enough for a cheapie” cigars in the $2 and under range, but I find these to be just fine. I’m not going to go on and on about flavor notes - it’s a cigar that doesn’t taste like shit. At different points while smoking you might find yourself saying… “Hey, that’s actually pretty good!”

Thanks for your time, I love you.

/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...

That’s great and I think it’s important that everybody make efforts in whatever ways they can. For me those efforts have been differently focused, because the source of my electricity is natural gas I prefer to just cut out the middleman where possible as the net amount of gas used is lower when piped straight to the house to create heat. I did however stop using disposable razors, I ride my bike and take the train (in a city where that is not exactly uh… ideal), and I buy unpackaged or non-plastic groceries where possible. Got an electric mower, some other stuff.

If I lived in the desert I’d probably seek out electricity as a power source more frequently with the abundance of solar. Planet-saving solutions will be regionally dependent for sure and what really matters is that people are aware and intentional - like I don’t need cords of wood ready for winter but tell someone in the northeast they shouldn’t be burning all that wood and they’re gonna laugh.

The way Kbin currently squashes photos for the previews, my initial response was "Okay now that's just ridiculous and mean to us dads."

Expanded, however, looks pretty tasty and I might give it a shot. Never smoked anything wearing a tie, first for everything.
