For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.
From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."
Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.
Recall uses a bunch of services themed CAP - Core AI Platform. Enabled by default.
It spits constant screenshots (the product brands then “snapshots”, but they’re hooked screenshots) into the current user’s AppData as part of image storage.
The NPU processes them and extracts text, into a database file.
The database is SQLite, and you can access it as the user including programmatically. It 100% does not need physical access and can be stolen.
@RickiTarr
More vintage, but “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” kill me.
My senior year in HS I had two lunch periods, and they showed films in the auditorium during the second one. After getting stoned with my buddies during the first period, I saw “Forum” during the second. My ribs ached when it was over. 50 years later, there’s some gags that still make me lol when I think of them.
Bike parking: build these. Just these. That’s it. These stands can accommodate any type of bike. And you can lock the frame to them.
Don’t build ones where only the wheel goes in. Don’t build anything where the mechanism can go wrong.
I know this is boring. But IT WORKS!
Edit: to those going “they can be cut and taped and bikes stolen” - I know. Do I care? No, not really. Tell me a type of rack that can’t be cut with an angle grinder!
@jon with the combination of very specific time and undefined date on year 2030, this reminds me of the old soviet joke that goes bit like "a man goes to the car store to buy a car, he pays for it and gets told, ok, come back in 5 years to collect your new vehicle; he pauses for a moment and asks, morning or evening? the clerk replies, does it matter? and the man says: yes, the washing machine repairman is also due on that day"
This Eurostar PBKA train is full. The air conditioning is good enough to keep the temperature ok, but CO2 PPM is between 1000 and 1200. It’s circulating and cooling the same air. I can’t know if the air is adequately filtered, so the FFP2 mask is on tight.
Alright, I've been thinking. As we know, the default model of conversation on the Fediverse is a tree. Threads are directed graphs, each node is allowed multiple children and only one parent. Kinda like a filesystem. There are also (hash-)tags, but they are a bit meta and work across all conversations.
What if we upgrade it a little bit? What if we allow multiple parents to each node? What if you can reply to multiple posts? I miss this feature because sometimes, when I post something, I get similar replies from different people, and I'm forced to either answer both of them (which sucks, because duplication of effort) or reply to only one and leave all others unanswered, which spawns an offshoot conversation that is basically already over. This way, conversation may feel more like putting out little fires at times. So, instead I can just add all of those in one reply, and add more as they appear.
And it's not that hard to do. Just make in-reply-to a list, not a string.
@drq also thought about this. Even bought a domain for it and started coding, but then dropped, since developing for Fedi has many caveats which I'm just too scared to solve.
Depression and constant lack of free time also don't help.
@jon 100% agreed, I even went so far as to suggest "UI/UX" changes. I have yet to see them implement them… (they probably have millions of those terrible stickers in stock though)
And there are so, so, so many paper cuts like this all over the place at SNCF. It's a nightmare for anyone with even rudimentary knowledge of UX design, and real world experience of seeing those trains in use as a passenger.

Bim interdit.

@AnthonyFStevens@soren@CloudyMrs this cartoon captures much of our attitude to Labour here. You would never get a hint of it from the BBC or other London media.
@clive I am very much pro-e-bike and use them myself (cycled "acoustically" for years before I got osteoarthritis in the knees).
My concern is that car-centrists have looked at California's e-bike definitions and created what is essentially an electric Vespa without the regulations & training a Vespa driver would be subject to.
This stokes ire against cyclists & increases crackdowns on all e-cycle riders instead of drivers.
Bonjour!
@Mikie1600 Oh bravo !
