I have worked on computers for nearly 30 years. I've made my living on computers for about 20 years. It's mind-blowing to me that this life allows for that. Me a hundred years ago would literally not believe it.

The fact that staring at a screen and typing things into a box is all I need to do to feed, house, and clothe myself is both comforting and terrifying.

Today is a day of listening to TurboGrafx-16 music. In the playlist currently is Keith Courage in Alpha Zones, Victory Run, and Ys Book I & II.

Game design evening going over notes and writing a lot. Realized that you probably want to be able to douse fires and torches with water for stealth reasons and that I'm just making Thief now

@britown An overhead dungeon stealth crawler sounds awesome!

I never owned a Sega Genesis (I rented one from Blockbuster a few times to play stuff, though), so I was never blessed by the wonder that is ToeJam & Earl. The soundtrack goes so hard and funky it's kind of ridiculous.

On a desktop computer, I honestly don't know what it's like to view the world except through a web browser. Even if it's Slack/Teams/etc., it's still a WebView. ChromeOS may be a separate thing from macOS, but 95% of my habits are essentially the former.

is it bad if your blogpost is 78KB

@cadey It's ok, but not great. Try to get it to be precisely 69KB.

The NYTimes' Spelling Bee is a great word game. My Bogdle word game is also good, but not quite as professional, and maybe not as bug-free and "sticky".

That being said, Spelling Bee really needs a "this is a valid word" CSS class on the guess container BEFORE you submit it.

Psst: https://bogdle.neb.host HAS that feature already ;P

Hey, does anyone have any recommendations of books or talks about theme park design?

I want to learn about things that make people go "oooooooohhhh" and "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" and sometimes "whooooaaaaa".

nebyoolae,
@nebyoolae@masto.neb.host avatar

@Temmy Slow ascents followed by drops, hairpin turns, upsidey-downies, twist-a-loos, and dark tunnels (esp if they go underwater or underground).

@btsherratt A deceptively difficult game to do well at! My best is 95 seconds. It needs a victory animation!

As fun as it can be to learn a language, just learning it with no context makes it harder to keep my interest. Add some context, however, and bam!

Human: reading new toy's instructions in a different language, visiting a foreign country and ordering food, following along in a conversation on , etc.

Computer: fiddling with someone's open source project that is in a language you don't know, doing a code jam for a particular framework/language, etc.

Has anyone ever made a 3D game where you have to match socks in a big pile fresh from the laundry? I want to play that.

@syntaxseed this idea came to me while folding laundry and I actually had one missing partner!
