So this Thursday I will be doing something I haven't done since... maybe middle school (which is about 45 years ago!)... participating in a Spelling Bee! 🐝 🤣
Organized as a fundraiser by the Burlington Rotary Club, I'll be competing as part of a team of three, which seems like that should be helpful, but we'll see!
If you are in the general Burlington, #Vermont, area, you are welcome to come and watch:
The NYTimes' Spelling Bee is a great word game. My Bogdle word game is also good, but not quite as professional, and maybe not as bug-free and "sticky".
That being said, Spelling Bee really needs a "this is a valid word" CSS class on the guess container BEFORE you submit it.
Whilst I'm either slightly dyslexic or just "really bad at spelling" I do always amuse myself when I'm going through the little red lines under steakholder. People holding a steak. Presumably with peppercorn source and some potatoes. #spelling
I think my dog park friend should get more attention for their wonderful contributions to helping organize the national #SpellingBee and singing the national anthem. Also their wonderful bee costume! :agooglebee: 🐶 #DogsOfMastodon
In 1908, Marie C. Bolden made national headlines when she spelled 500 words perfectly in the first national spelling bee. One of the words she was asked to spell was "prejudice" — apt, since as a Black student, she faced a lot of it through the tournament and afterwards. Here's her story, which drew renewed attention in 2021 when Zaila Avant-garde became the first African American to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
