Mute and other vocal issues

Is there a way to automatically mute accounts identified as being a bot? If not, I think that would be a great feature. That and automatic muting of accounts with posts predominantly not written in your native language. I wish I was multilingual but unfortunately I'm not.

For the language issue, take a look at the configuration section in the win interface: there is an option to select the languages you want and those you don't want.

For bots, you will have to block on an individual basis.

One of my favorite features of Mastodon is the variable . It means that if I don't want to see a hashtag topic, I can mute it for that day. Or if I'm mad at someone, I can mute them for an hour until I feel more reasonable. Or if I'm searching a topic and there's an account that has 5 million posts on it that are not what I want, I can mute that account for an hour and only see the other search results. And so forth.

Anyone else annoyed by the changes to mute and block that have occured on Mastodon?

I found a 6 hour mute useful when someone start filling my timeline with excessive posts. Just a little timeout for them so I can see what else other people are posting.

Maybe it's time to look at Bluesky.

One of my favorite Mastodon features: temporary muting (5 minutes – 7 days).

Important option: Set “Hide notifications from this user?” to OFF if you still want to be notified when they reply to or favorite your posts.

– Indefinite
– 5 minutes
– 30 minutes
– 1 hour
– 6 hours
– 1 day
– 3 days
– 7 days

These choices look better to me.

If you're not already are aware of the #mute feature in Mastodon then it works wonders for your timeline.

Personally I start with a 7 day mute and go from there 🙂🤷‍♂️

@simonzerafa @jerry I'm not sure why I'd mute someone rather than blocking them.
In previous social media lives, I muted. Now I'm just blocking.
If I don't want to see someone's stuff, why would I give them access to my posts?
Edit to add: this is an honest question.

It's an option. They will reappear in x days. If they are mute or block worthy then the choice is still there.

Live tooting an event you're not particularly interested in might be one reason to mute temporarily.

I have to admit I generally enjoy slack. But in any community there are going to be assholes. One thing I dislike about Slack is the inability to or people. Yes some of them utterly deserve it, and I don’t think I should have to tolerate their virtriol in the normal course of my day.

So instead I must manually stop myself from reading their words and absorbing their attitude. Because if I speak out about then I’m the jerk.
