Covers have a purpose: they signal the genre within.

A cartoon cover of two people dressed casually for camping does not--and I cannot stress this enough--signal EROTICA to anyone.

Holy jumping WHAT THE HELL, #HarperCollinsUK, WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL--you are setting that book (and its author) up to fail.

Happy ! Today I'm reading "Jesse's Girl" by Reese Morrison, a romance novella detailing trans representation and identity.

I'm aiming to be more intentional about reading diversely, so this will be the first of many books featuring trans characters and/or written by trans authors.

For contemporary romance with trans characters, I recommend Chef's Choice by TJ Alexander and To Touch the Light by EM Lindsey.

If you enjoy the fantasy genre, Rainbow Island by Devin Harnois is a coming of age story with a varied queer cast including trans characters.

I also really enjoyed The Black Tides of Heaven by Neon Yang. It is epic fantasy in a world where people can magically choose their gender as they age. The world building is nuanced and very rich.

Hey - I am craving a type of I got stuck on 20 years ago, series about the same idyllic quirky little small town (preferably NOT anywhere men wear cowboy hats), with soothing recurring characters and families and friend groups all finding their one book at a time. More heart than heat.

Prefer a more diverse selection of characters than was available 20 years ago but same cute quirky vibe really centered in Place, with the town like a character of its own.

Any recs?

@mishellbaker Jackie Lau's Baldwin Village series might fit the vibe you are looking for. It's technically about a neighborhood in Toronto so it's not a contained small town, but has that same "small business owners who all know each other" vibe--and not a cowboy hat in sight!

@mho Hashtagged Community events: things like PitchWars, or RomComBrackets, where large numbers of people in a niche group could hold an event and have conversations/interactions with like minded folks for a limited time.
