Why do people keep thinking Trump is playing 4D chess when the simplest explanation (he ’s a tired old man) fits just as well? https://mastodon.social/

Y'all want to hear a fact that really changed the way I thought about homelessness?

Half of all homeless people were in the foster system at some point. Social Workers often call the foster system The Highway to Homelessness. If you ever had a point in your life where you had to live with friends or family to for a short time to get back on your feet, remember that is a privilege that not everyone had.

KingShawn,
@KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

@maddad @RickiTarr I’m still living paycheck to paycheck and I have been for more than 40 years. 😳

There's no telling what that level of constant stress has done to me, mentally and physically. 😢

SEVEN MONTHS IN A ROW TELUS HAS FUCKED UP MY BILLING…

I call them. Explain the situation AGAIN. First rep says, “I can fix that.” Proceeds to take 20 minutes trying to fix it. “Sorry - I can’t fix it. I’ll transfer you to our Loyalty team.”

“Hello, this is the Loyalty team. How can I help you?”

“Did the previous rep not explain the situation to you before transfering me!?”

“No - and there are no notes on your account…”

JUMPED UP JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I HATE THIS COMPANY….

Is there a in the house? 😀

For the past 3 nights and yesterday afternoon, I've had a nose bleed out of my right nostril. Not gushing like a hit but a trickle. Luckily, it wakes me before I make a mess of pillows/sheets. 😳

I haven't been hit in the nose. No extra exertion or exercise to cause it. No previous issues with anything else other than the usual aches and pains of being old(er).No racing hereart rate or anything I can attribute it to.

Do you think it's a cause for concern? 😳

KingShawn,
@KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

@ParadeGrotesque Yeah…easier said than done, unfortunately. No doctors in my little small town are accepting new patients. I haven’t had a doctor in over 7 years. :(

KingShawn,
@KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

@ParadeGrotesque Hospital is 30 minutes away.

My apologies for not being clear. Not non-stop - I’d be dead by now! 😂

Last for about 10-15 minutes.

KingShawn,
@KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

@Waitnwallflower Just a couple of days ago and I didn’t move very far. Plus, the nosebleeds happened at the other place as well. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Dry air isn’t usually an issue here. I live in the Pacific Northwest and next to the ocean. :)

KingShawn,
@KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

@mentallyalex @Waitnwallflower Humidity hasn’t changed. And the nosebleeds happened in two separate apartments only a couple of miles apart.No reason for blood pressure to have suddenly changed but I don’t “feel” any different…

KingShawn,
@KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

@mentallyalex @Waitnwallflower I’m not allergic to anything except hypocrisy. :)

Nothing has changed - diet, sleep, exercise, etc. It just started happening. It’s weird…🤷🏽‍♂️

Good news/bad news after my first night in the new place…

I really hope I can get used to the bathroom fan noise if I can’t turn it off. 😳

I managed to wake up “naturally “ instead of from the banging and thumping from the asshole above me. 😳

Because of the house design, there’s NO morning light and little evening light because of the surrounding trees. 😢

Imagine if Republicans actually got on board with this awesome idea instead of painting it as the destruction of America like they undoubtedly will. Conservatives have lost their way and their minds, truly. https://www.threads.net/@potus/post/C607StBrwUy

KingShawn,
@KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

@gedeonm I’m honestly confused. How would giving people money after they’ve bought the home help them buy the home?

KingShawn,
@KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

@gedeonm Yes but they wouldn’t get the money until after they buy a house, right? It doesn’t help them to actually buy a house. It only helps after they’ve already bought, right?

Around the world, people are experiencing the once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon of a brilliant aurora display, as massive doses of solar radiation bombard the atmosphere turning it into gigantic radioactive florescent lights (nothing to see down here in L.A. though this evening, and city lights make it even less likely). Enjoy the show!

BUT REMEMBER THIS, DEAR FRIENDS!

In the 1963 horror/sci-fi classic "The Day of the Triffids", a lengthy, once-in-a-lifetime spectacular display of massive glowing meteor showers lasts long enough for the entire planet to see it at night. Everyone able to do so was urged to see this wonder!

The next morning, everyone who had viewed the amazing display was blind. And then the giant mobile man-eating plants that had arrived with the meteors, spread across the Earth.

ENJOY!

Where do you live and how do you feel about it?

Obviously, don't tell me exactly where you live, no actual addresses please! You can be as vague as you like.

I live in Central Missouri in the U.S.

Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful place, green rolling hills, lots of rivers, lakes, ponds, and natural springs, cool caves to explore.

Lots of farming here, so great access to quality fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy.

It's relatively inexpensive to live here compared with other states, because it's a "flyover".

I'm close enough to three major cities, that it's an easy day trip, and I'm about halfway to anywhere in the U.S.

We have one of the best Conservation departments in the U.S. and this is one of the few things that is a bipartisan issue. Lots of awesome nature programs that are free or cheap, state parks, conservation areas, bird watching, hunting, boating, foraging available to everyone.

Cons:

Yeah, it's a big one, it is a RED STATE, while a lot of the cities are blue, there is a large rural population, that votes red. Abortion is not legal here. People often vote against their own self interest.

While I'm not against responsible gun ownership, lots of people aren't responsible, and people have access to guns that definitely should not.

We have very few employee protections here, while the cost of living is relatively low compared with other places, it's taken years to get to a $12 minimum wage, and it's still not enough.

@RickiTarr @mentallyalex Do you mind if I make you jealous? 😃

@mentallyalex @RickiTarr I always say, this place has its many faults (I hate living in a small town) but it is spectacularly beautiful as well.

I'm thinking about visiting in with my 19yr old son. We would take a ferry from the Seattle area.

I would love suggestions or warnings for activities, lodging, etc

KingShawn,

@blaise @si_irini Will you be driving at all? I’d highly recommend getting out of the city and going for a drive. The coastline is spectacular and there are some great little towns along the way - in particular, the pretty town of Chemainus famous for its 53 outdoor murals. It’s only an hour outside of Victoria.
