My God. Keir Starmer just made me laugh out loud, but in a good way.

Listening to his Today @BBCRadio4 interview just now, and he pitched this cracker when talking about Squishi Rishi and his rain filled election announcement:

"The image of a man saying I'm the only one with a plan, standing in the rain without an umbrella is, to put it politely, farcical."

If you have access to BBC #iPlayer and like a bit of Le Carre, there are seven episodes of A Perfect Spy waiting for you.

These old BBC dramas are gold. Go dig. Oppenheimer was another treat.

Let me know any gems you uncover.

Any thoughts on infinite scroll vs button to load more vs next page buttons? In the context of a feed
#ux #accessibility

bernat,
@bernat@social.ei8fdb.org avatar

@joelanman I do remember reading some best practices suggesting load more/next button providing users more control.

This control was particularly needed when the infinite scroll breaks leaving the user marooned:

  1. they have to either refresh the page (and presumably loose their position in the "infinite") or

  2. scroll back up/down/up/down to try and "replicate" the scroll to try and force the page to load the next.

For me it depends on how long you're expecting someone to scroll. HTH

How many hours of human brain power are wasted saying "Can everyone see my screen?", in order to making up for the fact that video conference screen-sharing is stress inducing, and tools do a shit job of feedback.

🆕 blog! “Inconsistency is a feature, not a bug”

Some of my best friends are designers. But I think we can all agree that - however well-meaning - they can be a little obsessive. Whether it is fretting over tiny details, or trying to align to a grid which doesn't exist, or spending time removing useful affordances in the name of æsthetics - they […]

I'd like to see the informed consent agreement for this:

The University of Michigan has "allegedly sold 85 hours of audio recordings from various academic settings including lectures, interviews, office hours, study groups, and student presentations to third parties for the purposes of training artificial intelligence." [...]

Next, they plan on selling the recorded ramblings of the drunken professor who creepily hangs around the student bar.

"Students, ideally, should feel that they are able to try things out and make mistakes in classes, with those mistakes not being available to anyone except the professor," Brett Karlan, an assistant professor of philosophy who researchers AI ethics explained. He added that now the material might end up training AI. "This feels like, if not a fundamental betrayal of the mission of a university."

Is anyone aware of any OSS project that enables Disqus like commenting on static file blogs powered by ActivityPub?

I've found https://github.com/oom-components/mastodon-comments and https://github.com/dpecos/mastodon-comments which are really close to what I envision.

What I really want is something more akin to the Wordpress plugin. i.e. a full integration with the protocol. A blog author that can be followed by a Mastodon user etc.
