Remember when we let one far-right dude make up the whole critical race theory panic, and then reactionaries passed "anti-CRT" laws that were really anti-diversity laws, so that teachers were afraid to even teach about civil rights and the Holocaust, and then US students' knowledge of the Holocaust dropped precipitously? And it dropped the most where those anti-CRT laws were passed?

Half of us! 🤯🤬I think it says more about voter turnout than anything else but it still is one of the saddest statistics that I've ever seen.

23 years ago today, I sat dumbfounded and depressed in my car in a parking lot for hours after hearing the SCOTUS handing down the antidemocratic end to the FL recount that gave GW Bush the presidency over Al Gore who won the popular vote by 500000, about the size of Sacramento.

@Drdind I just remember being so mad that Gore didn't take a stand, fight back, instead of just capitulating. Then, when Bush won "for real this time" in '04, we seriously considered emigrating.

Before I saw this toot I was chalking it up to her getting older (she's almost 83). But now I don't know!? She's the total opposite of a Fox viewer... Damn 🧐😣 I did try to reach her, not in this context just on a personal level. she was not receptive at all.

    @RememberUsAlways They've been under a blockade since 2007! Even if they want to leave, they can't! They are trapped! The last "war" was 2014. How many Palestinians left? And by the way they would only be able to exist as refugees somewhere else! Palestine is where they belong. That is their land and has been for centuries.

    Seems to me like it's your logic that's faulty. You won't recognize the simple facts that would lead you away from your unwavering support for an occupying force.

But it's telling how quickly you move to expelling a people out of their own land, the land they have known for generations upon generations.

    This is the reality of the last few weeks. Families that left the northern side of Gaza were walking south with whatever they could carry, after Bibi told them to, walking along approved routes. And they were bombed anyway. This is the force you're standing up for.

    @schizanon sorry, why should they have to leave? It is their homeland. If they leave they are refugees, maybe in a tent in a camp in the desert somewhere. My friend got to come to the US but then he was separated from his mom and raised in foster care (which sounds bonkers to me). There's no one reason people don't leave and by the way they've been under embargo for the last 18 years, hardly anyone is allowed to leave.
