Calling war in is intentional and designed to minimize the exterminations of in Europe for over a decade during

You might be antisemitic if you fail to achieve this level of comparison.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@RememberUsAlways it's been more than 7 decades. Just because there are no gas chambers doesn't mean it's not genocide. Even so it's well understood to be an apartheid state. That's also begun to be recognized by other nations. It's painful to think about it as a destructive force, but you must look and see the truth. Israel is right now an evil force that is destroying an ancient people because their leadership lacks the will and the ingenuity to create a peaceful solution.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@RememberUsAlways Unfortunately it is Bibi who thinks it's only up to him. He had a perfectly good solution on his desk and walked away from it, similarly to Johnson/Kissinger walking away from a peace treaty with Vietnam. Instead he calls Palestinians animals and now is even willing to use a nuclear bomb on Gaza? He doesn't want peace, the rest of the world has been trying to broker peace since 1967 but all he and his predecessors wants is to destroy Palestine, as if it never existed.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@RememberUsAlways And as far as ownership goes you mention a bunch of occupying forces. Palestine has been Palestine since BC whether you recognize it or not. There were Jewish Arab families who had never left. There were Christian Arab families. Palestinians are literally written about in the Bible. Undeniable that this is a people who belong on that land.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@RememberUsAlways Ok so you're up to date, cool.

So what's holding you up from recognizing the Apartheid State? How is what they're doing so far from genocide that you have to post chiding people for calling out what they're doing?

I'm just going to say what everyone else will not.

#palestine is a terrorist nation where #hamas is in control for nearly 20 years.

It's long past the time that #humanity takes a stand against #terror.

#gaza may be the new standard and example for embracing terrorists against humanity.

@RememberUsAlways Bibi put Hamas in power. This whole thing has been by design. They don't care about the Palestinian people, who have not been given a chance to choose new leadership since Hamas came into power. They only want to wipe Palestine off of their map.

Why are you putting yourself on the side of the oppressor? We're at 3700 Palestinian children dead, and counting.

They have no where to go!

#Denver court will hear arguments Monday in a lawsuit seeking to bar #Trump from the state’s 2024 ballot over his role in the Capitol attack on #Jan6.

The trial begins after #Colorado Judge Sarah Wallace last week rejected the latest attempt by Trump to toss the lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of six voters in Denver district court last month.

The lawsuit argues Trump should be prohibited from running in future elections, citing #14thAmendmentl. #legal 1/…

Folks, the trolley problem is a thought experiment, not the real world. We don’t live in a Saw movie franchise dilemma where we have to trade one life for another. Killing Israeli kids won’t save Palestinian kids and killing Palestinian kids won’t save Israeli kids.

We know this because people have been killing Israeli and Palestinian kids for decades and they’re still not safe.

fixiemama,

@HeavenlyPossum Mostly Palestinian kids (the numbers don't lie) but yeah.

Can we please have a setting in the administrator panel to set the character limit for a Mastodon instance?

The current lack of such a setting does nothing apart from create a two-tier fediverse where folks who have the time to maintain their own Mastodon fork and folks who use other ActivityPub servers can write as much as they like whereas everyone else is limited to 500 characters. We’re not kids; make the option accessible and let instance owners decide for themselves.

fixiemama,

@aral if Mastodon became like Facebook with most posts being ones I have to page down to read, I would leave it. The micro blogging is the point, for me. The ideas have so much more weight when each piece must stand on its own as a comprehensive thought.

One of the bakeries that Israel bombed in Nuseirat refugee camp had just received a shipment of flour from UNRWA meant to cover the food needs of the entire camp. Israel waited to bomb it once all the flour was unloaded.

"Smishing" -- a term used to describe phishing via SMS -- never seemed to really catch on as a phrase that security people use in normal conversation. Maybe because the speaker feels a little silly uttering what is essentially a term used by people selling security solutions, IDK.

I feel the same way about the portmanteau "Quishing," which is apparently what some are now calling phishing via QRcode.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@briankrebs My team used to correct each other as a nerdy joke. "You mean smishing!" 😁🤓

When I was writing quizzes for the company CAM festivities, I had a few questions on whale phishing, spear phishing, other social engineering techniques. I didn't expect everybody to retain the names of each kind, only to come away knowing that it's not just the email link or attachment you shouldn't click on or open, it's a phone call, text, or even un-badged person IRL you should be suspicious of as well.

I just received this emergency alert on both my iPhone and pixel, along with a very loud emergency tone. It doesn't do much good to issue something like this without providing a little more information, such as the approximate location of this earthquake is.

Same

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@dangoodin lol same. I duitifully got under my kitchen table, and then went to the MyShake app to find out where the earthquake was. They're doing tests of the emergency alert system, so it may have been just a test, or the 4.1 that just happened in the East Bay may have triggered it.

@georgetakei I can practically guarantee that child did not have explicit permission from their parents to do that; also, good parenting means allowing your child the space to test, and learn, their limits. It can be a fine line but IMHO this is not an example of bad parenting. It's an example of a kid exploring.

Electric vehicle sales in the US were up 50% year over year in Q3. While Tesla is still the 800lb gorilla from a marketshare perspective it’s dipped from 62% to 50% share.

This is a contrary trend to the thesis behind its massive valuation — that Tesla will effectively be bigger than the rest of the auto industry as EVs take over.

Analysts are hoping the Cybertruck reverses the trend. The problem is it looks terrible while other car makers have sexier cars coming.

@PricklyPam @ericmacknight @brinnbelyea @mekkaokereke @carnage4life I'm loving all the activism on display in this thread. I was born in the 70s to Silent Gen parents. It's just a little odd to see all this in the context of electric cars, since the first electric and hybrid cars were developed well before the Model T. Imagine, if the fossil fuel industry hadn't done such a great job of suppressing innovation in electric transport, how far ahead of climate change we would be right now.

Does any company make a hot water heater that uses the waste heat from air conditioning to help heat the water? Was just staring at my utility closet where my water heater sits right next to my furnace and suddenly it seemed obvious and dumb that I use electricity in to heat my water, then use more electricity to pump heat out of my condo and into the air outside

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@jerry I don't know about that (heat pumps are amazing) but I do know a guy who built air-cooled servers, placed them in the room where the building air circulation intake was, and used them to heat his office building.

    If we ignore the notion whether it should, what would make the Fediverse or Mastodon easier to approach for the majority of people? Getting rid of tech talk around the platform? Better, world class user interface? Somehow dismantling the whole domain and server structure? Just calling it Mastodon as one service instead of a Mastodon instance with domain, obfuscating it somehow? Just focusing on mastodon.social and ignore the rest? Acting as centralized service on the outside? Making it seamless via features and improvements? Is there any silver bullet?

    I am not against the current state of things, on the contrary. Just curious and trying to think outside this box… of instances and other techy stuff. Could it even be easier to comprehend, or do we just have to continue educating people on the matter?

    fixiemama,
    @fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

    @rolle I haven't gone thru all the replies so hopefully this isn't duplicative. I joined after trying once and giving up, bc a tweet I saw said, "It doesn't matter which instance, and anyway you can change that after you get started. And, get a mobile app that does the UI for you." So then I made the jump, and as you can see I'm still on ~.social but I do plan to move. I also use Ivory almost exclusively to interact; I do occasionally log in directly via browser.

    How on brand is it for the GOP to be considering as top contenders for House Speaker: Scalise (self-described as "[KKK leader] David Duke without the baggage" and sexual predator Jim Jordan, who John Boehner — just two years ago — characterized as a political "terrorist."

    I think I'm still in recovery from learning a few weeks ago that Canadian fossil fuel companies tell people that because it's "natural" gas that they produce, burning it can't hurt the environment. And people believe them. I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, remember that and 🤯🤯🤯🤯

    On Nov. 27, 1978, the late Dianne Feinstein, then the 45-year-old president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and two-time failed mayoral candidate called a press conference to announce her retirement.

    That afternoon, a supervisor killed Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk.

    Feinstein handled the moment with poise, and went on to serve 9 years as mayor and 3 decades in the U.S. Senate.

    @TheConversationUS Thanks for the post. Surprised to see the article state that she was "never connected to a singular important issue;" her crusade against the CIA over torture of prisoners is legend, and "never authored landmark legislation" is false. She authored the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994. Just bc they let it expire doesn't mean you should leave it out. I guess what I'm getting at is there's a cleaner way to say, "Great career but should have retired like ten years ago." cc @histodons
