I remember last November when Mastodon breaking 1000 new users/day was a big deal. Now seeing monthly active users growing by 20,000/day.

I think a lot more people are aware that the fediverse is something very different than "just another social media property".

@obeto I'm surprised the compensation of $175k is so small. Wrongfully convicted Canadians tend to receive millions for less than half of that.

Web 4.0 is the phase where you spend a lot of time deleting accounts from all the web 2.0 properties that enshittified or turned evil.

So long . I maybe logged in like twice in 10 years. Reviews of employers are a great idea, but it can't work with capitalists at the helm. Maybe a trustworthy labour or community org will pick it up.

If you did any lab testing in Ontario back to 2016, you might be eligible for this data protection class action settlement...8.6M Ontarians are... that's pretty much all of us.

https://lifelabssettlement.kpmg.ca/

Unfortunately, to file a claim, you have to give KPMG much of the same personal info that was stolen... including your health card number.

Look forward to that being stolen from KPMG in the next few years, expect a future class action for that!

Current rain/snow splits for 's Tue/Wed storm, according to 06z model runs...

ECMWF - 19cm snow, 4mm rain, hgih +5C, gust 66kmh
GFS - 22cm snow, 14mm rain, high +4C, gust 70kmh

The ECMWF has the track a bit west and a longer, warmer period.

The Sat-Sun storm looks like more of a snowmaker.

I think I can get through this new Kissinger Died holiday season without setting up a filter.

What will be the celebratory customs of this new practice? Are we going for a few days, 4 weeks, or "40 Days of Kissenlent"?

I think it needs some substantial length to mix the joy for his departure with the sadness for the victims of his war crime.

Happy KissWeenMas!

Cozy cozy.

I'm not clear on the exact rules, but you can either take corporate money to be registered to lobby the govt and have the activity published.

Or you can be a partisan staffer, paid by your party's donors.

You can't be both, because that means corporate money is paying the party's staff, and that is 100% illegal.

PP going on an anti public service rant this morning, among other lies, claiming that the public service doesn't do anything more than it did in 2015.

Canada's population has grown by 15%.

Core inflation over that period is 28%.

The feds now run public dental, daycare, and pharmacare programs.

They built a $40B pipeline for Alberta.

They spent 3 years bailing out conservative commercial landlords during the pandemic.

Every dollar spent went into the private sector.

Freezing rain has started in Ottawa.

It's not really a good time to be outside unless you're testing the crampons and googles you'll need to make it though winter.

Now's the time to stay in and sort out those rat nests of cabling hiding behind every piece of electronics in the house.

While I do like the idea of outing old Nazis and sending them off to trials for their crimes 80 years ago, I think more priority should be on non-Nazi fascists from right here in Canada, who are doing root fascist stuff, like, right now.

So Arthur Irving died, net worth of $6.4B. Normally that would create an income tax bill of $1.7B, as all assets are deemed sold at death before they are available to be disposed by the estate.

Irving seemed to be married at the time of his death, so one option is to transfer all assets to her, which is tax exempt. When she dies, her estate would pay the $1.7B. Assuming she doesn't re-marry and gain an exemption.

What will really happen is Irving will pay little to no tax on that.

Another completely preventable loss of someone's life at one of Barrhaven's busiest intersections.

Within a 3 block radius here 10,000 students attend 3 high schools and 6ish elementary schools. Daycare, school, old folks home on 3 corners.

To the south, giant shopping plaza.

East-West speed limit is 70 kmh.

Intersection is unprotected for cyclists and pedestrians, traditional unsafe design with long, fast turning lanes.

Recruiter desperation seems to be on the rise again, phone is ringing more often from recruiters who still have my resume floating around from when I last shared it 15+ years ago.

I went to have a look at LinkedIn after reading an article that "LinkedIn is the new Twitter", it's looking about the same as usual.

Firefox was struggling with it, AdNauseum was getting really excited about clicking a bunch of new ads that I don't see.
