For me, social media is not very attractive, I would be happy to follow my favourite artists and some institutions via RSS. But the negative impact on society, democracy and many people, as well as how many have become dependent on them, made me want to do something: I founded this instance to promote a better alternative.

I am a pianist, composer and student writing a thesis in CorpusLinguistics, work with Moodle at UniGraz and on improving WordPress ActivityPub thanks to NGI Zero.

Mindestens ein Dutzend meiner deutschen Freund*innen in Graz haben es nicht geschafft sich ins Register für die EU-Wahl eintragen zu lassen. Oje! :(

Dabei war es echt nicht schwierig. Die Antragstellung an das deutsche Amt, wo ich zuletzt gemeldet war, war bis vor zwei Wochen möglich. Das Formular war schnell gefunden, ausgedruckt, in wenigen Minuten ausgefüllt und versendet. Noch in der selben Woche kamen die Unterlagen zur Briefwahl retour!

@twobiscuits @flowolf Es ist nicht an den Wohnsitz gekoppelt, wenn dann an die EU Anmeldung. Und die haben viele nicht, weil sie die dreimonatige Frist versäumen und sich die mögliche Strafe von bis zu 250€ nicht antun wollen. Ich persönlich wähle lieber in DE.

Für die automatische (initiale) Transkription würde sich z.B. https://github.com/JuergenFleiss/aTrain eignen. Es arbeitet 100% offline und erzielt für auch für mehrere Personen guten Output.

Zwei Funktionen wünsch ich mir, für Mastodon die es "besser" machen:

Erstens die Möglichkeit, Replys zu muten. Gerade weil hier sehr viel qualitativ und quantitativ diskutiert wird - das muss aber bitte nicht Jede*r leseen müssen.

Und zweitens die Gruppierung der Notifications - das nervt unfassbar einen Toot mit Medieninhalt tausendfach scrollen zu müssen 🙄

Ich hab wenig Anhnung vom coden aber das müsste leicht implementierbar sein. Also liegts nicht an der Machbarkeit...

I'd like to use a workflow where each message that gets bookmarked by me is automatically screenshotted to PNG, archived in a local directory and its text content + image descriptions get added to a text file (preferably ) together with a link to the screenshot and the original message URL.

Somebody willing to volunteer? 🙇

@qwertziop Ich würde sagen Stagepianos sind seit mehreren Jahren ausgereift, da tut sich nicht mehr viel. Mit Yamaha, Roland oder einem gebrauchten Nord Stage (ab 2er) machst du nichts falsch.

@grimm Ein Freund von mir, der in der PV-Installationsbranche arbeitet meinte gerade, er gehe nicht davon aus, dass die Preise erstmal nicht weiter fallen. Zudem sind sie seit dem letzten Quartal 2024 auch schon wieder merklich gestiegen.

Step 1: Hey, let's not use Microsoft and Google to collaborate remotely, let's use our university's #Nextcloud with #onlyoffice.

Step 2: Shit, that Onlyoffice is WYSIWYG, and those are a pain in the arse, even if they are Free Software. They force me to use a mouse and don't separate semantic structure from look & feel.

Step 3: Okay, never mind, use whatever you like. Just send me a PDF export of your part once you are finished, and I will glue it together with my #LaTeX slides with pdftk.

@thomasjwebb @dansup Federating software forges is already happening. @forgejo is actively working on it. They even have a good overview of the progress somewhere I don't have at hand right now.

@Alekto Toots von Profilen anderer Server sind bei uns nur zwischengespeichert. Toots kommen nur mit Grund an einen anderen Server an: Folge-Beziehung, Boost oder explizietes aufrufen via URL in der Suche.

Manche Clients holen sich die Toots in solchen fällen automatisch. Die meisten nicht, weil Privacy, du klickst ja auf graz.social und erwartest nicht, dass eine Verbindung zu potenziell allen anderen Seiten direkt von dir aus aufgemacht wird.

I've been working on a subtitle editor plugin for !
It adds a extra button on the update video page, and can do most of what you find in other tools, like visualize audio, basic formatting, and makes it easy to switch language.
The goal is that it should be "good enough" for most who just want to add subtitles/captions, but don't want to spend time finding and downloading dedicated software for this.
Instance administrators can install it via the plugin page.

Screen recording of me opening the subtitle editor on a video about accessibility in Copenhagen. I demonstrate visualizing audio, panning, editing text in the english translation, and moving the start of the subtitle text.
