Ooh, I have a jar of what was unripened honey (pulled out out of a beehive before ready-- which happens sometimes) and it's fermenting itself into alcohol. Natural yeasts apparently are converting it into mead. Wonder how it tastes. 🤔

@ai6yr I cured olives for a while, and it was the same thing there. Usually it was Leuconostoc that ruined them (which is doubly annoying as that’s the bacteria used to make sauerkraut - it just makes olives super mushy and taste like absolute garbage). Was always slightly nervous about C. botulinum infection though. 😬

@ai6yr Yeah the brine curing I used “capped” the brine the olives were in with a layer of oil. The one time something appeared to be growing through/under the oil layer I turfed the lot.

@DeweyOxberger @mekkaokereke Yes!! And the good news is that we already know how to build most of a high quality, safe car cheaply - it’s only the drivetrain in a BEV that’s novel and has yet to realise all of the economies of scale etc. I’m bullish!!

@RustyBertrand There are only two possible outcomes* of the next election:

  1. Biden wins
  2. Trump wins

You as a voter have several choices however:

  1. Vote for Biden
  2. Vote for Trump
  3. Vote 3rd Party
  4. Don’t vote

Three of those options help Trump. So if, for the issue(s) that matter to you, you think Biden is the better alternative on balance (not a perfect candidate - that’s sadly not a relevant standard!) then there is only one rational choice.

Yes it sucks that the US electoral system is so horrifically bad that these are the only possible choices and outcomes, but that isn’t going to change before November (despite the work that many people, myself included, engage in to try to improve it).
