Google Gemini now has extensions that can for example use the content of your Gmail inbox, very practical but also very scary from a security/privacy perspective.

@ErikJonker Especially scary for those who are e-mailing someone with a Gmail account and have no clue that their personal data is fed into Google’s LLM. Also certainly an issue regarding the GDPR’s obligation to inform. 🤔

This has been a major item on my bucket list and it happened in the most unexpected way. Just like that, a few hundred meters from where I live. I‘m so grateful for that!

I‘m overwhelmed by the beauty. 🥹

I‘ve been dreaming of seeing the Northern Lights since I was I child. I cannot find the words to describe how I am feeling right now.

Another data broker is telling me that they have a „legitimate interest“ in scraping and selling my data because they need to for their business. 🙄 That is not enough.
When someone claims legitimate interest, they have to show that your rights and freedoms do not outweigh their interests. „We want to because money!“ does not quite do that!

Time to prepare my next complaint.

@rysiek The complaints I filed so far are all in German and tuned to Austrian procedural law unfortunately. But I can and will share translations. I‘m currently building a website (in English and German) for that. So please stay tuned and thank you very much for being interested! :)

@helma Thank you for sharing!
Unfortunately, it’s not that straightforward in Austria when it comes to data from public registers. That’s why I’m filing those complaints. These things needs to be dealt with in accordance with the GDPR.

Please remember to check and change the privacy settings whenever you download a new app!
Some (cough most) apps collect and share a lot of your data by default. And not only yours but the data of your contacts as well. That’s why you should opt out and restrict access wherever you can. For your own sake and for the sake of your contacts!

I simply cannot understand how someone who claims to be a human being can find it perfectly normal to aggressively demand a multi-billion dollar bonus while at the same time laying off thousands of people. I do not have to be a socialist to find this behaviour disgusting.

(1/2) If companies tell you that their processing of your data is legitimised by the GDPR‘s Recital 47, don‘t buy it! They usually refer to the Recital‘s last sentence, which states that direct marketing «may be regarded as carried out for a legitimate interest».
Instead, tell them to read the whole Recital. It mandates for a «careful assessment» of the interests involved, taking into account factors such as (the lack of) a relationship to a company.

Some of the issues us privacy people complain about may appear rather insignificant to you. I get that.
But please let me invite you to a different perspective: As we are currently setting a lot of precedents regarding data privacy rights, how we are handling the small issues today will have an effect on how we will deal with big problems tomorrow. That is why you should care about violations of your privacy, even if they don‘t seem like much today. Because tomorrow, they might.
