"The permission to be your worst self lay at the heart of Trump’s appeal in 2016. He didn’t use dog whistles or pretend to be a better person than he was; his bigotry, resentments and anger were right on the surface, and he encouraged his followers to be like him. Let your freak flag fly, stop being polite, grab ‘em by the pussy and tell those bastards what you think of them, right to their face."

Noting Mike Johnson's appointment of Scott Perry and Ronnie Jackson to the House Intelligence Committee, Maegan Vazquez writes,

"The appointments of Jackson and Perry come a day after Johnson, a staunch Trump ally, broadly outlined a 'three-pronged approach' on how the Republican majority can target the Justice Department, New York and other jurisdictions for investigating Trump — using, among other things, House oversight powers."

Oliver Darcy reports on Wall Street Journal's hit piece citing Republicans to claim Biden is slipping:

"The Journal's piece pointed to a continued problem roiling the news media as it covers the 2024 election. Trump is permitted to fall asleep in court and make nonsensical public statements on a routine basis without any serious questions raised about his mental acuity. Meanwhile, Biden is judged on an entirely different standard."

"Despite numerous legal obstacles to finding jobs in the United States, immigrants are more likely to work than U.S.-born workers overall and at every education level—a difference that grows significantly among the least skilled. Immigrant adults without high school degrees are about 20 percentage points more likely to work than comparable U.S.-born adults. Furthermore, nearly 97% of immigrants who looked for jobs in 2022 found them."

That did not stop Trump from airing the film at Mar-a-Lago and touting it as proof that he’d rightfully won the presidency in 2020. And in his bid to keep his bar license in DC, Rudy Giuliani even cited the movie as evidence that his election fraud claims were true. (Spoiler Alert: LOL.)"

As Parker Molloy notes, Washington Post (further) disgraces itself by running a mendacious headline about this story stating that Trump "agreed" with chants from his mob calling for Hillary to be locked up.

But as Peter Wade notes, there's Trump right there on video in 2020 telling his mob,

“Lock up the Bidens, lock up Hillary. Lock them up.”

A powerful statement by A.R. Moxon about the cult of "mostly male mostly white mostly Christian supremacists" that stands behind Trump and forms his power base demand reputational immunity" as they violate all canons of morality and decency to support him, while insisting that the rest of us treat the as not just moral authorities, but as the supreme moral authority — no questions asked.

Moxon concludes,

"I think [Trump's] sentence should be a permanent revocation of the reputational license of our self-professed moral authorities, and the cost should be the moral authority itself, and the reputational immunity it bestows."

Max Bergmann, a former State Department official and now program director with the Center for Strategic International Studies, predicts Russian-fueled turbulence at the Democratic national convention in August. He foresees attempts of Russian operatives to infiltrate groups of protestors and attempt to turn protests violent.

He also notes that social media has “become way more of a cesspool than it was in 2016.”

@lin11c After folks like Maria Butina opened our eyes (or should have done so) to how Russia can use its citizens residing in the US to engage in spying, we surely have every reason to exercise caution, it seems to me. I think what Bergmann may be worried most about are people who wouldn't appear to be working for Russia, but are hidden as "ordinary" Americans.
