My late husband was career government, a very, very low-level clerk. There were probably a couple of thousand people scattered across the country performing the precise function that he did. Zero policymaking influence. But for over 25 years until he retired neither one of us ever displayed as much as a campaign bumper sticker. When a grateful citizen tried to give us a Thanksgiving turkey, my husband turned it down.

I can't even with these two "justices" and their spouses and their island vacations and those damn flags.

“I was waiting in line to buy bread when suddenly and without any prior warning seven to eight missiles fell,” an eyewitness, Mohammad Ibrahim, told CNN.

“There were seven to eight huge holes in the ground, full of killed people, body parts all over the place,” he said. “It felt like the end of the world.”

Ok, seriously, does ANYONE know anything about parakeets? I'm sitting in someone's kitchen with a yelling parakeet, and I have to change his water dish, and he's already bitten me (damn, that hurts). This bird hates me on sight! Does anyone know enough about parakeets to tell me how to avoid getting bit?

Tarheel,

@dancinyogi he's a tiny critter seoarated from his 'flock' and alone (except for this huge stranger with hands coming at him) frightened out of his wits and defending himself the only way he knows how. Jokes about harming him are SICK.

Tarheel,

@dancinyogi sime of your commenters, not you. Your awesomeness is self evident.

Tarheel,

@dancinyogi yes. Or letting Louie out the window (how I got my boy: his owner was threatening to abandon him that way. In March.) Or the cat one.

So. Not. Funny.

I'm so tired of teenagers being "the chosen ones" in fiction. please, let a middle-aged woman save the universe! she's seen some shit and dealt with it. she's tired of it all. she doesn't give a fuck. she's angry. she will get this shit done.

Tarheel,

@CatDragon @reginasbread they don't save the world but they do solve crimes: The Thursday Murder Club (book series) is led by a retired spy who is an awesome woman. And the book Killers of a Certain Age is an all-woman gang of retired assassins on a revenge mission. 10/10 would recommend both.

Sad I can only think of two.

Tarheel,

@reginasbread

Again, not saving the universe, but def an older woman (retired spy!) who can Get Shit Done

I genuinely sometimes worry I have too many books but I have just read that Edward Gorey amassed a collection of about 25000 books and still professed that "There's no such thing as too many books" so I have a way to go 📚☺️📚

UAW President Tells Trump He Isn’t Welcome on Picket Lines

Fain’s statement is an escalation of a growing battle with President Trump, who is trying to align himself with striking union members.

When I finally realized that feedback from my boss at a “check in” was just them reverse engineering the right compliments or criticisms of me to justify giving me the same raise (or, more likely, lack thereof) they would have anyway, it was then that I should’ve known I was having some issues with indirect communication. Alas, it took another year for me to finally realize I was autistic. Far too austistic to be middle managed.

Or even just managed. 😳

Tarheel,

@ryanhoulihan probably pretty common. Happened at the state hospital where I interned in the '90s.

Today, tell your kids about Ruby Bridges—the first Black child at all-white public elementary school in South.

Today Ms. Bridges turns 69.

She's younger than both my parents. And more importantly, she's a reminder of the courage of our youth, of the ever present reality of systemic racism, and of the need to lead with anti-racism to counter this hate.

Let us look to leaders like Ms. Bridges, and build that more perfect union for all people in this country—grounded in true Justice for all

Tarheel,

@QasimRashid Heck, she's only two years younger than me. This is not ancient history.

@w7voa I so hope that it's the property manager. That would make my day.
