Mini #CrowUpdate : I got to spend some time with the family tonight after work (the first time in a few days). Everybody seems to be doing fine. Junior can more or less fly now. But it's still scared/intrigued by me and by the fact that Mom and Dad are cool with me.
Impossible to take a picture of the three of them, so it's only Mom and Junior and not even on the same shot.
"Someone feed me!" the youngster yelled 😂 .
The little Ravens have just climbed out of their nest and up the cliff, still wobbly on their feet but practising their wings.
Parents did a very good job. The food delivery was constant, as was the screaming of their kids whenever a parent approached with food.
Today is Tuesday, which means I spent a good chunk of the day at home, which means... #CrowUpdate and a very special one, entirely focused on Baby Crow!!!
I saw it not once, not twice, but three times today!
First, while giving peanuts to Mom, I heard him in the tree nearby. It stayed this way for a little while. I'm not sure if it wanted to jump to the branch close by or if it was looking at Mom collecting the peanuts. Maybe both?
They hatched! 😊
Though my visit to the Raven nest was cut short because a hiker informed me about a mother bear with 3 cubs just ahead - I did hear squawky little raven voices! Both parents were away looking for food, but this one came to check me out.
#CrowUpdate I only briefly see the #crows these days but they come daily to get the peanuts on my balcony and my yard. The thing is that the park is often crowded in the late afternoon when I return from work, and with Mr. Crow injured and Ms. Crow spending time in the nest, they don't hang out much in the empty park in the morning. Today was interesting, though (pics are from last week, I didn't have my camera).
When I got home, I saw crows chasing an eagle near my home. (🧵 ⤵️ ) #crow#corvid
#corvid (poke @jastrow )
I love these Green Jays. They don’t come very far into the US. I was lucky enough to get to see some at the National Butterfly Center near the Rio Grande yesterday.
My short story “Hope Is the Thing With Feathers” is available to read for free along with all the other fabulous finalists in the Asimov’s Readers’ Award! Of particular interest to #corvid lovers and #neurodivergent folk!
