And finally, a closeup. These two babies are squashed together, no room to spare. Which is good because it got very windy later and the nest was flung around like a bouncy castle, but these two stayed put. Phew I was worried.

The three chicks have joined in the fray! 🐥 Don’t worry, Mama Julia is keeping a close eye on them. She’s the black silkie not pecking at them. We have growing suspicion that the white chick may be a rooster. She’s remarkably bold.

As mama silkie hovers nearby, the persistent chicks belly up to the chick starter with annoyed hens trying to shoo them off. Chick feed is apparently a delicacy, so the hens peck at the chicks to keep the food for themselves. Chickies are undeterred.

Wedged between PRO and YA, our garden sprouts are taking off! They face two significant challenges: nine days of spring break (when I can’t access the building), and unannounced water line repair under the garden’s raised beds. The beds are suddenly turned topsy turvy to accommodate deep trenches. #PublicSchools are a trip.

@thepoliticalcat Yes, the hens love it. They have free run of the backyard, where not a single leaf survives. 😂 But the front yard is fully engulfed now. What I pull gets tossed over the fence for them. No wonder they’re laying so well lately 🥚🥚🥚
