Dear companies,

please don't make having access to Google's or Apple's app stores to use your products a requirement.

This locks so many of us out because we either don't have a compatible device or the device doesn't have the software to access these services (like google play services).

Dear Fedi Admins of relatively small instances:

If you notice a new account on your instance has a seemingly "real" name attached to their account, it might seem strange at first, but do yourself and Fedi a favor and google that name.

There's some here that are scammers trying to impersonate famous people from somewhat niche entertainment media. Just this morning there was an account registered on a small instance with the name of a professional wrestler.

Thankfully this person had the misfortune of grabbing my attention (wrestling fan) immediately in my timeline and I notified the admin of the potential scam and we were able to mitigate any real harm.

You may not be so fortunate as this in the future.

Some even go so far as to attempt to impersonate lesser known athletes from other professional sports and try to get gullible fans of the team or sport to give them money.

Be safe out there and do your due diligence. It just might save you, your users, or other Fedi users from getting scammed out of their hard earned money.

There was the recent flurry of notices and warnings around the changes in Google Chrome for ads and the sharing of information. What I did not see during this privacy encroachment was any discussion about the changes that have apparently come to Android.

This weekend I received the following notice on my phone as it relates to the targeting of ad information.

Following the small link in the lower left, I was able to open the 'Privacy Settings' and turn all of this off.

Please share with others who may want to reduce their sharing with Google and their advertisers.

Help! My Achilles heel at work has always been issues related to broadly understood data encryption and decryption. For some reason my brain can't sort it all out - private keys, public keys, signing keys, AES, SHA, RSA, GPG, SSO, OAuth, etc..

Every time this topic comes up at work, I know that I will be scratching my head for days.

So my question to you guys is, can you recommend a good book to help me understand these things once and for all? Thank you in advance.
