pgcd

@pgcd@mastodon.online

I make #dark (goth-adjacent, in my intentions) music: https://pgcd.bandcamp.com/
I work with #python and #django and all the usual suspects.
I'm a big #ScienceFiction and #sff reader.
I'm scared for the future of my progeny (thanks to #climate and #fascists).
I play #civ6 and #TFTC, I try to keep up with #science, I defintely kicked my #LegoStarWars habit.
I hate bigotry in all its forms, I love good #perfume.

(Making this searchable: I write gems, and I want to be able to find them again)

Destroying the planet we live on -- the only planet we can live on -- is of course totally legal and even supported and subsidised by governments around the world (including 's).

But PROTESTING against destroying the planet? That's illegal. That's very, very illegal. Don't even think about doing that.

Does anybody have a ticket to the timeline where words have meaning?

I had to choose three songs out of thirty I liked, so ultimately I had to choose based on these factors:

  • the music I liked when I was 14
  • would I still like it played in reverse
  • odd/even seconds duration
  • did birds alight on my balcony while I was listening
  • do I already own a t-shirt suitable for a concert where said song is performed
  • would the song still exist in the Non-Shit Timeline

Thanks to all for being so amazing and making me a little less desperate <3

Yes, we're all laughing at Google's "AI" idiotic responses about Al-Qaeda Peppa Pig and gasoline pasta but think about all the other ones.
The ones that are not so blatantly stupid. The ones that are just wrong and are being served for millions (billions?) of questions.

A laughter that will bury us all.

As far as I'm concerned, the current status of (generative) AI is functionally equivalent to the rise of fascism.
We shouldn't have let our guard down with both-sideism and alt-righters and "free speech absolutists" and all the other ways we let them move the Overton Window. We wouldn't be here, if we'd been more careful.

Let's not make the same mistake with GenAI: repeat with me

THERE IS NO GOOD USE GENERATIVE AI.
FIGHT GENERATIVE AI.

Managed to listen to a dozen tracks and I found that about a third resonate with me the right way.
Which means I'm likely gonna end up with a 24-track "shortlist" (ahah) that I'll have to whittle down to three.

People, please stop being so talented, will you?
Somebody doesn't have a lot of time!

pgcd,
@pgcd@mastodon.online avatar

Funnily enough, it looks like the songs are sorted in reverse liked-by-pgcd order, so the ratio is closer to half now that I heard a few more.

NICE, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR RESPECTING MY WISHES OF EVERYBODY ELSE MAKING ONLY THREE SONGS I LIKE!

Can we extend the voting deadline by a few weeks maybe?

If all else fails, is there anybody who wants to collaborate with me so I can have a good song next year?

Thirty years ago, a friend and I concocted a TTRPG with its own system (custom stats and mechanics etc) and setting, and it might be fun to try and make a CRPG out of it.
Assuming zero specific knowledge and non-existing art skils on my side, is there a free (or close to free) engine that could allow me to get something up and running to see if makes sense?

Germany will transfer military aid worth 7 billion euros to Ukraine.

This was announced by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Additionally, the country will transfer the third Patriot air defense system to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“It wasn't an easy decision because we don't have many” Scholz emphasized.

@Free_Press honestly I would've found it a lot easier to understand if Germany had said "we don't really want to give all our weapons to Ukraine because we're concerned that Putin will attack us next" from day one.

The reason why Altman and OpenAI are moving so fast is that they know - they know - their product is mostly useless.
So, what they're doing is making sure we have no alternative when the media bubble pops.
They're killing off everything else, that's it.

pgcd,
@pgcd@mastodon.online avatar

Ultimately, the goal is to have answer all your questions. And you'll have no way of confirming the answer is correct, because all other search engines will use an LLM to spray you with bullshit as well.
And they'll have source/reference links, which will be pages written by an LLM, possibly on a different subject.

The tech isn't the problem. Sam Altman and the other CEOs are. It's them who decided to sell you a glorified autocomplete as an AI.

It still tickles me that the TERFS and Transphobes tried to claim Terry Pratchett as their own, and everyone who actually knew him, including his daughter, and co-author Neil Gaiman, was like WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, you couldn't be further from the truth.

pgcd,

@RickiTarr let alone know him, just reading his books should've disabused them of the notion.
And not even all of his books - probably a random paragraph is enough when one's not driven by the sacred fire of being a horrible human being.

Vladimir will not reappoint Defense Minister Sergei , the state-run TASS news agency reported. He has proposed Andrei Belousov, a former First Deputy Prime Minister and economic adviser, to replace Shoigu. Putin has also dismissed Nikolai from his post as head of the Security Council. Patrushev, a former spy, has long been seen as a close member of Putin's inner circle.
