Does it support socks proxy for individual web apps?

@estebanlm@lemmy.ml avatar

lol, I was doing exactly the same, mostly because the gnome app for it (webapp-manager) does not do one thing I badly want : open all non-app links in the default browser and not on instances of itself. Also, I love the webkitgtk project and this allows me to give it an usage.
I will give a look at your project, I think is better contribute to it than have two (or more) projects doing the same 😜

To install it on emacs 29 paste this into a scratch buffer and evaluate it:

(package-vc-install
 '(minimpc :url "https://codeberg.org/nmtake/minimpc.el.git"))

And put this in your init.el: (require 'minimpc)

You don’t need Vertico or Orderless. I’m using emacs’ built-in completion–it works fine.

nmtake,

Thank you for trying the package! I completely forgot to mention require in README, and didn’t know package-vc-install. I’ll add it to README later.

I’m using emacs’ built-in completion–it works fine.

I hope it works on other packages like helm or ivy too.

Did you just re-invent Progressive Web Applications?

morrowind,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

Don’t think so, websites themselves have to implement pwa’s, you can’t force it client side

GravitySpoiled, to opensource in I made an app to install websites as desktop applications on Linux

Can you share some info about it? I don’t get any info on the page on codeberg without reading the code. What engine does it use?

TheOneCurly,

Made with Gtk4, WebKitGTK, libadwaita and Flatpak.

WebKit based, which is interesting. I don’t have much experience with WebKit on Linux.

aBundleOfFerrets,

Gecko is very difficult to adapt to standalone apps and servo isn’t ready yet. what would you rather they use? Chromium?

GravitySpoiled, (edited )

why can’t I see my comment when I browse lemmy.ml without being logged in?

The post got upvoted so someone must have been able to see it.

There is even another post from someone on lemmy.zip

GravitySpoiled,
TootSweet,

Not saying I disagree, but what specifically would you prefer? Gecko? Or is there something better? (Maybe I’m just engaging in wishful thinking asking if there’s something better.)

Fixed wrong link - now the post title correctly link to the repository ;)

Love to see unique features for piefed. So many different ways to tackle “threadiverse” as a project and I think we’re all better off with some experimentation

Good work Rimu 👏

I should note that there’s also the option to simply save a post or comment (the star in the web interface). It can then be found under “Saved” on your user page.

threelonmusketeers,

True, but that doesn’t send notifications for comments and replies. You’d still have to remember to check it manually.

This should be available on mastodon and all activitypub services tbh

@nutomic, do you know if this feature is possible for Lemmy, or perhaps already in the works? I had a quick look on the GitHub but couldn’t find anything.

maegul,
@maegul@lemmy.ml avatar

If you can’t find anything on github about it, creating an Issue/Feature request (I think that’s a label there) would probably a good idea

nutomic,
@nutomic@lemmy.ml avatar

Here is the relevant issue, but no one is working on it currently.

erlend_sh,

Maybe it’s doable with the new plug-ins system? I’ve asked in the issue.

threelonmusketeers,

Thanks for the link to the GitHub issue! Might there be any chance of prioritizing it for an upcoming release?

It seems like a feature which many users would find significant utility in. Since this post, there has already been another post inquiring about this feature.

nutomic,
@nutomic@lemmy.ml avatar

True there are a lot of issues related to notifications. I will see what I can do.

A valid alternative to lemmy is… any other part of the fediverse.

cyrus,

well, not if you want a UI that’s designed around threads like Lemmy or Kbin does 🤔

point taken 👍

Is this using ActivityPub? I notice that the lead dev shares a username with a lemmy.world admin.

EDIT: yes it is I missed that it is already federated with Lemmy instances

andrew_s,
@andrew_s@piefed.social avatar

The lead dev is Rimu - which isn't on LW's admin list.

lemmy alternative

As long as it federates, hey?

andrew_s,
@andrew_s@piefed.social avatar

It does. This reply is from PieFed, and the vast majority of the content here has come from Lemmy via ActivityPub.

Cochise,

It’s possible to use Lemmy clients with piefed? Tried boost and can’t login.

andrew_s,
@andrew_s@piefed.social avatar

Not yet, no. There's no API for clients like Boost to interact with. There's some discussion about one here

Cochise,

Tanks.
