atlhart, to news in California foster youth can now attend college for free
atlhart avatar

This just makes sense. Probably a lot of history to show that foster kids go downhill once they age out. Giving them a path, via paid for college, to transition into stable adulthood should help a lot.

I support access to free college for everyone. Until we can get there, this is a good step.

I wish we could call them “Pro human rights” instead of “pro Palestinian” I don’t think the victims being Palestinian is of the highest importance.

Username02,

This has the same energy of someone saying “all lives matter” when being asked if “black lives matter”.

@jeena@jemmy.jeena.net avatar

Username checks out.

Warl0k3,

The “all lives matter” slogan is a disruptive counterpoint used to rally support around a seemingly moral cause, to make more palatable the obviously racist ideas of the countermovement.

These current protesters are being labeled as “Pro Palestine”, not “anti-genocide”, for similar but distinct reasons - there’s an exhausting amount of effort being expended to make sure that Palestinians are synonymous with Hamas. By labeling these protests as pro palestine, you can leverage your massive public opinion campaign to discredit the opposition as being pro-terrorist.

Explicitly saying that your movement is about human rights violations, not the imprecisly defined concept of “palestine”, helps to defeat this tactic.

mibo80, to news in Woman who fatally stabbed man 108 times gets probation, no prison time

Prison is absolutely not about rehabilitation and never was. Reformation, maybe but, not rehabilitation. Agreed though she should be evaluated and treated for any psychological issues.

I know weed makes people paranoid but most seem rational and grounded. Seems like there was definitely some pre-existing conditions for this one.

GiddyGap,

Prison is absolutely not about rehabilitation and never was.

Not in the US, but it is in many places. Here’s an example from Germany:

TallonMetroid, to news in California health officials shorten COVID isolation period to 1 day, previously 5 days
@TallonMetroid@lemmy.world avatar

When I caught COVID I had symptoms for two weeks, and you’re telling me that if I hadn’t been WFH I would’ve had to go be around people for 13 of those 14 days while super contagious? Sure, people are supposed to be vaccinated now, but still, what a fucking joke.

Earthwormjim91,

No it’s specifically if you have no to mild symptoms and have been fever free for 24 hours. Which is exactly how we handle pretty much every other respiratory disease.

  • Earthwormjim91,

    Yes, thanks for saying literally what I said. Almost verbatim.

    And yeah, that’s how we handle literally every other seasonal respiratory illness.

  • moody,

    They said “no to mild” symptoms. As in the range from zero symptoms to mild symptoms.

    GregoryTheGreat,

    It explicitly says if you are symptom free.
