The media still slip into the shorthand white supremacists made for anti-fascists. It's either playing into the game the supremacists want or just too lazy/careless to spell it out.

Sadly, due to ignorance, the term antifa is misunderstood by many, some willfully, others because of scaremongering
Detecting if the cause of the ignorance is/isn't willful is on a scale:
The more likely candidates for willful misunderstanding of antifa are the ones who mispronounce it as 'Aunt Ifa'
Part of the reason to mispronounce is to hide the fact that it's about something being anti-fascism The mispronunciation hides the anti and the fascism part quite well, it's crafty
