Courtenay,

@gruber not yet. I’ll pull the trigger at some point but I wear an old series 2 to bed that prevents the feature being enabled. At some point I’ll stop bothering with the second watch, but not today.

@gruber I’m a little surprised at how low the Yes percentage is! I did it a couple weeks after the feature became available. o_O

jsnod,

@gruber Yes, and I had to remove an old MacBook from my account because it was utterly unusable due to un-dismissable infinite dialogues about being unable to log into my iCloud account.

macfixer,
@macfixer@mastodon.social avatar

@gruber No, you scared me off of using it (what if I truly need Apple to unlock my stuff?)

jonatan,

@gruber No, because I still need iCloud Web for SMTP, otherwise I would.

fl0_id,
@fl0_id@mastodon.social avatar

@gruber I didn’t know about it tbh

otolithe,

@gruber protection, not Collection…

@gruber John. You missed an option that says: “Eh? What is that? SHOULD I enable it?”

robmille,

@gruber I'm a definitely yes, but I do access my email through the web so some of the protection is somehow partially compromised. but nothing that I'm concerned about.

dougsonos,

@gruber but now that I know about it, I will turn it on.

@oddevan@mastodon.social avatar

@gruber thanks for this; thought I had turned it on but had forgotten. Finished setting it up tonight.

kaleb_haugen,

@gruber you need a fourth option. I would have it enabled for all my family members if not for the fact that Apple doesn’t allow it for users under 13.

@gruber
I do one better. I refuse to use iCloud

bservies,
@bservies@twit.social avatar

@gruber because I forgot about it

kronawetter,

@gruber Just enabled it. I totally missed that it became available outside the US, so thanks!

denis,

@gruber Option 4: Not available in my country.

chasedmartin,

@gruber Honestly just keep forgetting it exists. Kinda also scared of what might happen if my Apple account gets totally locked out.

simonharper,
@simonharper@mastodon.social avatar

@gruber WTH is that?

tackhead,

@gruber Am I seeing things or did this initially say Advanced Data Collection?

mttjj,

@gruber Yes but it’s frustrating because 99% of the time I try to use iCloud.com from my work laptop (not associated to my Apple account in any way) it gives me an error saying that none of my devices were able to grant access to iCloud.com. Tried different browsers, clearing cache/cookies/etc. I don’t use it enough to care to troubleshoot and find out what’s wrong but it’s still been annoying.

jonyheim,

@gruber not sure if anyone else did this, but I was trying to see what the rest of the third option said by tapping on it but can’t change it. Otherwise would have said No 😅

jwisser,
@jwisser@wandering.shop avatar

@gruber Do you mean Advanced Data Protection?

gruber,
@gruber@mastodon.social avatar

@jwisser Ha, yes, of course. Fixed!

@gruber Gruber, I basically use iCloud just for app sync on mobile and nothing more. I use https://cloudmounter.net for every cloud need. Apple occupied almost my whole drive leaving me with low internal storage and a slow M2 machine. Now I have turned off every iCloud feature possible and only have my important apps sync. Now my tera drive is fast and usable and my Mac flies! Lesson learned. iCloud in your Mac is not worth it.

EshuMarneedi,
@EshuMarneedi@mastodon.social avatar

@gruber I assume you mean “protection.” Yes.
