@glassbottommeg i was going through archived online shopping sites several weeks ago and like, stuff with this design looks sketchy but it pales compared to modern sites that have so much bloat that it gives ublock origin its own scrollbar
Your #post had me recall that I used to use some pretty shitty #gifs on my first few #websites, so I went looking thru my #archive for my #collection of #files. Just reading thru the filenames is enough to trigger me, lol 🤣
@glassbottommeg@EeeeWooo I haven’t even looked at my website in several years. Make that significantly more than a few years. Apparently, Google Buzz was a thing when I last updated https://www.hawthorne.org . I’d say it is due for a refresh, at least so I can delete all the ancient social media and business links, and verify my infosec.exchange account.
I don’t even remember where it is hosted, but probably nearlyfreespeech.net, as I drop a few bucks in the account there every year or two when it runs low.
@glassbottommeg No page that looks like they wrote the HTML themselves ever asked me to accept cookies, sign up to their newsletter, turn on notifications, install the app, etc etc
@tomw@glassbottommeg it is staggering to me that literally the only major website in the entire world now that doesn't have a cookie notice is github, because they decided not to store unneeded third-party cookies, and that this was such a revelation that they blogged about it
@glassbottommeg I keep thinking I should update my personal site from the starry background, bordered table, dancing baby, pikachu with a hard hat under construction, and intentionally broken visitor counter, but when I see posts like this it emboldens me to leave it as it is.
