@ai6yr belts and suspension are the first things to check after getting any old car.
owners tend to ignore suspension, and other than the steering rack and maybe the bearings, most suspension parts are cheap and relatively easy to replace yourselves with beginner to novice wrenching skills.
UV rays destroy seatbelts in SoCal if the car isn't garaged. This was the stitching in my 33yo festiva. I was able to find a good replacement set in a junkyard, but if not there are companies that re-web for you. About $80-100 per belt though, and you have to send them the old belts and wait a few weeks.
