I you like games and don't want them killed, this is a good thing to take a look at: https://www.stopkillinggames.com/

@Tijn I guess my issue with this is that he didn’t seem to talk to any game developers or games preservation people to see what would be practical or actually helpful before making a whole site about it. The site makes it sound like having an offline version is as simple as flicking a switch and doesn’t account for cases like the game ending because the developer went under, which is often the case

@MichaelKlamerus Yeah, I think he's keeping the scope narrow in hopes of having maximum effect with the thing he is trying, which is preventing devs & publishers from killing games on purpose.

@Tijn
What is the point of this initiative? If people just stopped buying such games, the problem would be over in an instant. Buying is confirmation of this practice's commercial validity.

@mr_creosote I think the main problem is it’s hard to know whether a game requires a connection to a central server or not.

But really there’s simply a good opportunity now with The Crew being both popular and made in France, where consumer protection laws are strong. It’s the best chance yet to get this coded into law somehow.

Once it’s illegal to kill games in one major country, it might be enough for developers and publishers to stop designing their games in such ways.
