AP" Phoenix using ice immersion to treat heatstroke victims as Southwest bakes in triple digits

"PHOENIX (AP) — The season’s first heat wave is already baking the Southwest with triple-digit temperatures as firefighters in Phoenix — America’s hottest big city — employ new tactics in hopes of saving more lives in a county that saw 645 heat-related deaths last year. …and I’ve gotten another 3 (or has it been 4?) alerts today, all for the same heat warning that starts at 10am tomorrow, which I’ve know about for several days now since they won’t stop sending these damn things.

And I just noticed that in the official heat warning, under the Urgency heading, it simple says to “take action with next hour.”

Sigh… https://mastodon.social/@rscottjones/112555482238770001

Not great for the people there, but on the plus side, my mapping software showed clear structure impact this morning and I wondered about that!

Radar Update: Showers steadily pushing towards Tucson from Phoenix. Regarding impacts, we're expecting these showers to have little measurable rainfall but the threat of lightning and strong gusty outflow winds is still in the picture.

Ha, it was better to be on the Southwest Chief this morning than on the I-40, Amtrak sailed on through Flagstaff without any issues, while truckers are stuck on the I-40 still. #AZwx #Arizona #Amtrak
