Pretty proud of going over 300 kms last week. Had to sneak one last ride after dinner last night to bump it over and of course it rained again 🙄 happy rolling #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter
Riding bikes has long been my most creative activity. I’ve solved many problems and come up with ideas for so many things over 10s of thousands of miles. Even while doing the hardest intervals.
Yesterday, I came up with an app idea and even a potential name.
Garage sale buy of the day, LOL. Needed another bike bell. Bought this from a little kid who had outsourced a garage sale to his parents... apparently the kids got bored and wandered away from their garage sale. $1! #BikeTooter#garagesale
I’m always a little conflicted about riding my mountain bike on the road to get to the mountain bike trails. It’s mainly that it always feels so slow compared to my road or cyclocross bikes. However, riding to the trail only adds about 6 minutes versus driving there, which means more riding time overall, which is good. 🤷♂️
Among the many benefits of shaving your legs as a cyclist, it gives ticks a lot less to grab ahold of to hitch a ride.
A number of the less-wooded areas of the mountain bike trail had tall weeds and grass leaning in right at leg level, and ticks are definitely common here.
I’ve been running 38mm Panaracer GravelKing tires tubeless on my Soma Stanyan for years, but the front tire I just put on has enough wobble to rub in one spot on every rotation. (The wheel itself is true.)
Two shops told me that the tire wasn’t seated right, but I checked and remounted multiple times and it’s seating fine. Even used some rubbing alcohol to lubricate the tire where it seated, but it always mounts up perfectly fine. The tire is the problem.
The second shop gave the real answer after chatting with the folks there for a bit: I should go down a size. It’s a real bummer, but even the Soma website says it can do up to 35mm. :blobfoxsad:
The only other realistic alternative is a new frameset, or at least a new fork, but that will have to wait for a while. :blobfoxgooglycry:
Riding across #Missouri primarily on the #Katy Trail. Going through the usual bipolar swings that I have touring that I don’t have in my regular life. “WHY AM I DOING THIS “ and “oh, this is why.” #BikeTooter
I think I found a way to hold pizza boxes on Cargot Robbie that I like. I have some quick clamps and I can slide them between the cargo bags and the frame, and that's a enough to keep the boxes in place, even on a bumpy ride. Maybe next I'll find a way to 3D print some brackets to hold them in place without risking the paint?
While finishing up my ride this evening, I watched a driver in front of me drive right through a blatantly red light. Not changing from yellow to red as they went under it, solid red as they entered the intersection. I’m probably hyper aware as a cyclist, but even while driving it seems like I see more people running red lights everywhere. Does anyone else?
Checked off "bought cheapest beer possible before 130pm and bicycled it home" on the bike tooter achivement list. #BikeTooter (Edit: just for clarity, these are for my slugs, I do have a driver's license and no DUI arrest, I do own a car, and I don't drink beer.)
" Between 1970 and 1990, the federal government devoted roughly $20 billion per year for roads and highways in inflation-adjusted dollars while allocating just about $3 million annually to bicycle and pedestrian projects, roughly 10,000 times less." #BikeTooter#infrastructure#BikeBus#climateemergency
