When Jack first started talking about Bluesky, in the very early phases it involved the blockchain. I remember suggesting that I thought the reason he liked the idea was that he could theoretically build a version of Twitter where no tweets could ever be deleted, and therefore there'd be no pressure on him to moderate or ban anyone. He wanted to not have the power.
People always thought I misunderstood Jack's motivations but it turns out I was right about him all along.
The weirdest thing about the outrage over the Bluesky bridge is that people have this notion that they can control what happens with the data they put publicly on the Internet.
You don't have any control over what you put online.
You have to accept this and choose from there what you want to share on social networks.
Being angry about this will just make you feel bad and achieve literally nothing.
How is that different OR WORSE from any #DTBO socmedia, where they make no assurances or even real guarantees of privacy, and a douchebag techbro can shred your account at will?
PEOPLE, I’M QUOTING ANGRY STAFFER HERE. READ THE THREAD!
To those who have asked me👇🏼
Via Angry Staffer:
Update for my Threads folks:
#Twitter is getting more unusable by the day. I completely get why people don’t want to be there.
I’m going to stay on Twitter through the 2024 election for get out the vote purposes, and if something hasn’t drastically improved by that point, #Threads will be my permanent social media home.
Threads now has a Supplemental Privacy Policy (https://help.instagram.com/515230437301944) regarding "Third Party Services" like Mastodon. Should Threads interconnect with Mastodon via #ActivityPub, this addresses what they will do with our data.
Note that they will collect information from anyone "allowing Threads users to follow you or interact with your content". The information they collect will include your profile, your content, and your interactions.
