Man can somebody please just build me a nice little #static#website to host my bullshit #blog with like #githubpages or something? Or just teach me how to do it. Sure I have a #github account but that doesn’t mean I know what I’m doing 😂 #eleventy and #jekyll have great docs I just. Do. Not. Get. It.
If you style it out in the #nord theme too, that’d be great.
For components without major complexity, this is something that works well for me. However, I have also tried to rely entirely on WebC, which, as I understand it, is the intended approach.
I'm about to start using #Git for the first time, to make the development of my new #11ty site a bit easier. Learning both #Nunjucks and modern #CSS leads to a lot of manual rollbacks I hope will become easier.
I've read a lot about Git, but one question lingers still: I’m building my site based on #Eleventy Base Blog, in a repo I cloned using #Github Desktop.
How do I disconnect (or whatever the technical term is) from the original Github repo and turns it into a private of my own?
#eleventy question
Is there a super simple way to setup eleventy on a server with:
Https support
can eventually point my domain at it?
I asked this question a year ago and got all sorts of command line instructions. I'm not afraid of simple CNAME record editing but I'd like the setup to be as one-click as possible.
Live and learn — I used a filter to render recent posts on my home page. The splice call in the filter mutated the global posts collection causing said posts not to make it to my RSS feed. #Eleventy#WebDev
Now, I am realizing it is becoming quite cumbersome to maintain and to adapt to the changeable nature of my craziness. Code is messy and probably a bit bloated, I am not so expert or have enough time to work on improving the performance…
maybe it is time to start using a framework or something, but I have no idea about this stuff. My only imperatives are not to have any front end #JavaScript and have as little abstraction as possible. I would just like to make my life easier and keep the development of my personal website a fun thing to do rather than a stressful chore.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Please feel free to digress, I am eager to learn about the topic.
Hmm I've only ever built sites using #Django, bcos I'm most good at #Python and I'm just super familiar with all the features (and quirks) of Django and it's been great, but honestly being good at only Django (when it comes to web dev) does gimme huge impostor syndrome cos I know fuck all when people talk about #Node and whatnot :(
Maybe I can learn how to build a site using #Eleventy so I too can speak gibberish lingo I never understood before with other fellow programmers?
What's step 5? A markdown file for every image? That sounds painful. A single json or yaml file mapping images to metadata? Maybe better? Could get out of hand. Some very simple CMS? Other ideas?
Issue 7 of the 11ty Bundle is now live...TL;DR, it's mostly about gathering content for the site, but with a few new posts and a handful of sites to see; not to mention the new page of Starter Projects. Check it out! #11ty#eleventy@eleventy
