I don't have a lot, but West (West Flows) surprised me by declaring he was gay. I will admit I struggled with that, until I realized that love is just love. And he is very much in love with his Jeko.
I hope that more characters will come out as queer. I think my Moon might be. (She's the MC in the book after Sun Burns.)
I just wrote a little gem that those of you who read East Roars will recognize. I'm also sitting here, quietly giggling to myself.
“No, wait, Zameesa. That makes sense. That’s how they name their mages. It’s for their power.”
How did she even know?
“It’s what those traders said when I was a guard at the Station. There was a woman among them who could heat water.”

I worry about that, yes.
However, I believe it cannot be helped, really. People will have their impressions and will stereotype. Still, I try to stay away from them.
For example, Sun won't have red hair, even though he is a fire mage. In fact, I'm not even sure what Laisal looks like, to be honest. I'm bad at imagining faces.
@Firlefanz I love redheads, too. One of my best friends is a redhead, actually.
All of the redheads I know are feisty, strong-willed, and charismatic. Those are also the qualities of the Fire God in my world, so it just fits. I'm okay with that. 😊

Laisal admired her parents - patient, caring, strong members of their community. She also admired the Priests and was very happy when she was allowed to become one - hoping to help the entire nation.
Today, she knows that the glowing image of the Priests was nothing but a lie, based on exploiting children.

Sun actually gets to experience something like that in his story.
He's stunned, impressed and shocked. Learning about the true history of his country is eye-opening. It takes him quite some time to come to terms with it.
Laisal is less surprised but also very shaken. (I'll have fun writing that!)

Im Moment ist das Jeko, eine Nebenfigur in West Flows.
Ich mag ihn als guten Reiter, der seine Tiere liebt und sich gut um sie kümmert. Ich mag ihn, weil er ruhig und bedacht ist, einen kühlen Kopf bewahrt und irgendwie ganz er selbst ist.
Natürlich ist er für West wichtig, aber er nimmt sich selbst nicht so ernst. Und das mag ich auch.
