@dansup#Extrapolations very good show. With the air quality being so poor in the NY region the last few days, this show really drives home it’s only the beginning.
Ich finde #Extrapolations großartig, weil die Serie zeigt, wie die Menschheit untergeht: Durch banales Durchwursteln im Alltag und komplettes Elitenversagen sowie die Hoffnung auf magische Wundertechnologie. Und der Punkt ist eben auch, daß die Leute in der Serie nicht verstehen, warum alles so schiefgehen mußte, weil für sie nie eine wirkliche Alternative zu der Gesellschaftsordnung, in welcher sie leben, überhaupt nur denkbar war.
Genau so gehen wir unter: Weil die meisten hinreichend privilegierten Leute sich einfach immer nur in irgendeine Art von Normalitätssimulation flüchten, während sie irgendeine Karriere durchziehen. Da gewöhnt man sich an alles, auch wenn jeden Sommer der Wald brennt und man vor lauter Rauch kaum noch atmen kann. Solange das Flugtaxi noch fliegt und die neuesten Holos unterhaltsam sind. Wenn die Welt zur bekloppten Cyberpunk-Dystopie verkommt und die Biosphäre abkackt, daß nur noch Ungeziefer und Unkraut überlebt, dann gewöhnen sich die Leute auch an texturierte Algenbratlinge aus dem 3D-Drucker. Fenster werden durch Bildschirme ersetzt, weil man draußen vor lauter Smog eh nichts sieht. Man gewöhnt sich auch daran, daß es jeden Tag neue Nachrichtenmeldungen über irgendwelche Superunwetter gibt, bei denen mal wieder ein paar Millionen Leute umgekommen sind, Hitzewellen, Kältewellen, Überschwemmungen, Megadürren. Bis man selbst irgendwann dran ist.
Die Serie verzichtet einfach komplett darauf, irgendwelche Helden zu zeigen, die für irgendwas kämpfen - sie zeigt nur, wie Menschen kollektiv in den Untergang rennen, weil sie eben Menschen sind und teils mehr, teils weniger privilegierte Bestandteile eines Scheißsystems, das sie nicht durchschauen, selbst wenn sie es sich einbilden zu tun. Und weil sie sich an jeden technologischen Strohhalm klammern, der irgendwie verspricht, die akutesten Symptome der globalen Krankheit zu lindern. Niemand kritisiert in dieser Serie je den Kapitalismus, weil dieser für die Charaktere quasi Teil der Natur ist.
Es ist eine sehr pessimistische Serie, das ist klar. Aber ich denke, Pessimismus ist angemessen.
Apple TV #extrapolations is so poorly written and played that it hurts. Stiff, full of stereotypes, educational (in a bad way), with characters performing ideas not persons. Will probably make it harder for good takes on #climatechange to get funding and be produced.
@christianschwaegerl I agree on the bad writing, but disagree on it setting back climate storytelling. There’s some AAA-list talent attached that will open the door to alternatives now that a concrete (if disappointing) example exists. Foot in the door! #Extrapolations
@bkeegan I’d certainly prefer you being right. Screenwriters seem to be able to imagine and script the most improbable things, like phantasy figures blasting through a number of different universes, but are more or less blank on the imminent fundamental change in our living conditions. #Extrapolations certainly does that but isn’t very good at delivering it in a captivating way. Starting it off with the dangerous stereotype of a “greedy Jewish capitalist” was an early warning sign in ep1.
