I've come to the realization that I'm never going to sit down and watch all the #FOSDEM talks that I wanted to see, but missed, in Brussels. So, I went through my FOSDEM app, downloaded the video tracks for all the talks, and converted them to mp3. Now I have podcast content for my daily commute... 24 talks... should take about 4 weeks to get through them all. FOSDEM is amazing, but it really should be longer than 2 days. #FOSDEM2024
I wasn't at #fosdem. But I'm hearing that almost all presenters had dropped their twitter handles and replaced them with fediverse handles.
If that group doesn't do it, we would have no hope! But still nice :-)
Herzlichen Dank an @askans für das wundervolle Mitbringsel von der #FOSDEM! Bin ja sonst nicht so ein Merch-Opfer, aber hier koste ich das Glück in vollen Zügen aus. 🤗
"Certainly one of the more unorthodox talks at #FOSDEM 2024, but it does carry an important message. The AI and heavy metal parts can feel a bit jarring at first, but in the end it all makes sense, trust me.
Made me miss something that I realized we don’t have much of in tech lately: fun! Makes me appreciate creators like “Programmers are also human” and KRAZAM so much more now as they carry on the spirit that was covered in the talk."
You will never need to travel to #FOSDEM again! I just discovered the Unix Sticker Pack from Stickermule! What a relief! Yes, please take my $24 for your largest of variety packs! 🤣️ https://www.stickermule.com/unixstickers
Although, to be honest, the small pack is on sale for $1 and I need a tux penguin sticker for something I'm working on so I might order it. Still, I did not think premade Unix sticker packs were a thing. I'll trade you my HTML5 for your Docker. 😂️
Also, the #fosdem recordings would have much improved audio if the audio gain had been turned down A LOT. That'd make it FAR easier to consume. It's literally just turning a dial down so that it doesn't sound completely overmodulated and distorted.
I don't even want advanced audio sorcery, just turn the damn dial down, please.
If you weren't able to attend #FOSDEM 2024 in Brussels earlier this month, you're in luck as all our presentations were recorded and are now available on our YouTube channel! Complete playlist here: http://col.la/fosdem24#GStreamer#Rust#Mobian#Linux
@fosdem 2024 was once again a great opportunity to learn about #PostgreSQL and interact with the #Postgres#community. I also had the great pleasure to meet many fellow enthusiasts at the PostgreSQL Europe booth, where I was joined by friend and comrade-in-arms @tchorix and we took the opportunity to do an impromptu book signing for "PostgreSQL 16 Administration Cookbook" which we co-authored 👉 https://packt.link/BmLOz
In general, the venue felt unfit for a conference of its size. The poor ventilation and climate control of several of the lecture halls had me close to fainting. I would rather my employer pay 500 euros for me to visit a conference with proper climate control and worse talks than spend one more 30-minute session in a lecture hall with all the windows open but the temperature hovering at 28 degrees. It was not good.
@ganonmaster#FOSDEM long outgrew the available space. Unfortunately as long as they stay at the ULB this is not going to change. And any other location will not be for free.
A quick summary of FOSDEM 2024 and the very productive Hackathon we had right afterwards! :postmarketos:
> There is a lot coming up, you can expect to read more in blog posts and merge requests in the next weeks and months. That being said, we wanted to share some of the highlights, especially for the people supporting us. Without you, this would have been significantly harder to organise.
Big thank you to the @fosdem team! You again enabled thousands of people to meet and discuss important topics of #SoftwareFreedom with other likeminded people 👏👏👏👏 Huge motivation booster again from #FOSDEM.
